The 2021 Summer Deaflympics, officially known as the 24th Summer Deaflympics, is an international multi-sport event scheduled to have Caxias do Sul, Brazil as main host city from May 1 to May 15, 2022. In addition to Caxias, there are events scheduled for the neighbour cites of Farroupilha and Flores da Cunha. This is the first time that the Games will be held in a Latin American, a South American country, outside the summer of the host city (as May is on local autumn season), the first time since the 2007 Winter Deaflympics held in Salt Lake City that the Deaflympics are held on CISS Americas Region and the first time that the games was to be held at Southern Hemisphere since the 2005 Summer Deaflympics held in Melbourne,Australia.

Host City Selection[]

Caxis do Sul was selected as the host city for the 2021 Games a meeting of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf on February 26, 2020. Originally scheduled to take place from December 5 to 21, 2021 during the late spring and early summer at the host city, the Games were postponed to May 2022 in January 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the first such instance in the history of the Deaflympics (previous games had been cancelled but not rescheduled).[1][2]

The 2021 Summer Deaflympics are set to consist of 18 sports, the same number as in 2017:[3]
