Aarohi is the annual cultural festival (Cultfest) of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, India. Lasting three days, it is the largest youth event organized in the Octobers of Central India. It was started in 1989 by the pioneer batch of VNIT, which was formally then known as the Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCoE).

History[]

Aarohi was invented in 1988, and a working prototype was presented in 1989. It aims to provide an environment for students to enjoy and promote art, music and culture. Whether it fulfills its promise is regularly debated by the college authorities, with ambiguous results. It often refers to itself as "(sic)C entral India's (sic) Largest Cultural Festival."

The name Aarohi signifies the ascending order of numbers in mathematics. It originally means the ascending notes of Indian classical music. It truly justifies the ever increasing "zeal" and "passion" of Aarohi organizers, who often single-mindedly organize the event to the detriment of all other college activities, both curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular.

Some of the highlights of Aarohi are as follows: n/a

Main events[]

With new additions every year, A La Danse, Cynosure, Pentathlon, Purple Haze, Abhivyakti, Art Conoscenza, Halla Bol and Swarmanzar are the few signature competitions organized at every Aarohi. Abhivyakti is the dramatics event which includes stage plays and mimes. Halla Bol usually includes a social message embedded in street plays. Over the years Aarohi has seen some of the finest play performances. A La Danse and Swarmanzar are the dancing and singing competitions which attract participants from a different genre and dancing styles. Pentathlon, a group event with tasks ranging from a wide spectrum of the area is a hit amongst the participants.

Abhivyakti[]

Abhivyakti is the stage play and mime competition. It is often the target of severe criticism due to its judges. However, it often pulls an audience of over 10 people and so is responsible for approximately 42% of the total event attendance for Aarohi.

Cynosure[]

Cynosure is the personality contest consisting of various rounds that test the character and composure of the participant, judged by a panel of the jury from the various fields. This is often used as a comedy show by jaded senior students of the college.

Purple Haze[]

It is the flagship[citation needed] event of Aarohi[citation needed] which pulls a large chunk of music lovers[citation needed].
