The Aljunied Group Representation Constituency is a five-member group representation constituency (GRC) in the north-eastern and eastern region of Singapore. The five divisions of the GRC are Eunos, Bedok Reservoir-Punggol, Kaki Bukit, Serangoon and Paya Lebar. The current MPs are Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim, Gerald Giam, Leon Perera and Muhamad Faisal Manap.

History[]

Aljunied GRC was formed in 1988 and won by the People's Action Party (PAP). It absorbed the Eunos and Kaki Bukit wards of Eunos GRC in 1997, as well as the Punggol East and Punggol South divisions of Cheng San GRC in 2001. The GRC has been hotly contested between the People's Action Party (PAP) and Workers' Party (WP) in every election since 2006.

The Workers' Party subsequently won the GRC from the ruling party in the 2011 general election, marking the first GRC to be won by the opposition since the introduction of the GRC concept in 1988 led by former opposition leader Low Thia Kiang, who left his stronghold of Hougang SMC to contest in Aljuined GRC. The PAP candidates, Lim Hwee Hua, Zainul Abidin bin Mohammed Rasheed, Cynthia Phua and George Yeo resigned from politics due to the election results.^[1] In the following 2015 general election, the People's Action Party team consisting of Yeo Guat Kwang and four first-time candidates lost by a close margin, garnering a vote share of 49.04%.

Prior to the 2020 general election, Low Thia Khiang and Chen Show Mao retired and were succeeded by Gerald Giam and Leon Perera respectively; the 2020 election saw the WP retaining the GRC with 59.95% of the votes, a 9% swing from the previous election. Between 2011 and 2020, Aljunied GRC was led by Low Thia Khiang; he was succeeded by Pritam Singh due to part of a leadership renewal but Low Thia Khiang still remain his desire in politics.

The GRC consists of a large part of Hougang (excluding Hougang SMC), Paya Lebar, Serangoon Gardens, the southern half of Serangoon North as well as a portion of Bedok and a very small section of Tampines.
