Anuj Lugun (born 10 January 1986) is a Jharkhandi Indian poet and writer.[citation needed] His poetry espoused indigenous renaissance and intense rebellion against fascism and oppression. Lugun's activism for political and social justice earned him the title of Tribal Poet.[citation needed]

Early life and career[]

Born into a Jharkhandi Mundari family to Arinus Lugun & Jaymmila Lugun in Jaldega Pahantoli, district Simdega, Jharkhand, Anuj is the nephew of William Lugun, a prominent leader of the Jharkhand movement.[1]

Work and service[]

Lugun is working as Assistant Professor in School of Indian Language at Central University of South Bihar (CUB).[2][3][4][5] Currently pursuing research in Mundari songs at Banaras Hindu University. After serving in the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India), Lugun established himself as a Poet in Jharkhand. Lugun's writings explore themes such as love, freedom, and revolution; he opposed all bigotry, including religious and gender. Throughout his career, Lugun wrote short stories, novels, and essays but is best known for his poems.[citation needed]

Awards and recognition[]

  • Yuva Puraskar 2019 for his long Hindi poem Baghaur Sugna Munda ki Beti (The Tiger and the Daughter of Sugna Munda)[6]
  • Anuj Lugun- won the prestigious Bharat Bhushan Agarwal Award in 2011 for the best poem in Hindi[7]
  • Rashtriya Muktibodh Puraskara (Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Akademi) 2009[citation needed]
