Baljunso (stylized as BALJUNSO) is a South Korean indie label founded in 1991 by Kang Byung-yong, former director of CAN Entertainment. Baljunso was acquired by SM Entertainment in 2014.[1]

History[]

Baljunso was founded in 1991 by Kang Byung-yong.[1]

In 2014, SM Entertainment acquired a share in Baljunso, and the label in affiliation with SM held the Baljunso World Wide Promotion event in Hongdae on March 8, featuring artists such as HLIN, Love and Peace, EZEN, and Play the Siren. Play the Siren's debut single was the first release under the Baljunso-SM partnership.[2] In response to concerns over the partnership between the indie label and a major mainstream agency such as SM, Kang Byung-yong stated that while the goal of Baljunso was to "revive the nonmainstream genre", they would establish "a firm cooperative relationship [with SM Entertainment] for national and global distribution, marketing, and additional businesses."[3]
