Bayfront station in Singapore

Bayfront MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Downtown line (DTL) and Circle line (CCL) in Downtown Core, Singapore. Located under Bayfront Avenue, it is near Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay. First announced in 2005 as part of the Downtown Extension, the station opened as part of the CCL's extension to Marina Bay in January 2012, while the DTL platforms commenced operations in December 2013.

History[]

Bayfront station was first announced in June 2005 as part of the Downtown Extension between Millenia and Chinatown stations.[1] The contract for the station's construction was awarded to Sembawang Engineers & Constructors for S$463 million in December 2007,[2] and the station was opened on 14 January 2012 as part of the extension of the Circle line (CCL) to Marina Bay.[3] Bayfront's Downtown line (DTL) platforms were subsequently opened on 22 December 2013 as part of the first stage of the line.[4]

Station details[]

Located under Bayfront Avenue,[5] Bayfront station is close to Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by The Bay.[3] The station has three levels, with the CCL and DTL platforms located next to one another,[6] and on official maps, it has the station code "CE1" for the CCL and "DT16" for the DTL.[7]

Public art[]

Titled as "When the Ships Comes In" by Lee Wen is a mural, composed of a collage, located on the underground linkway of the station. The collage of images of ships, drawn by young Singaporeans, brings a remembrance of the past of Port of Singapore and Singapore's future hopes.[8]
