Beng Per Wildlife Sanctuary (Khmer: ដែនជម្រកសត្វព្រៃបឹងពែរ) is a 2,494.08 km2 (962.97 sq mi) large protected area in northern Cambodia that was established in 1993.[1]

It is located south of the Northern Plains Dry Forest Priority Corridor.[2] It hosts wild cattle and deer, large water birds and elephants, as well as important archaeological sites.[3]

This sanctuary is unfortunately a good example of the bad attitude of the state towards protected areas. In this nature reserve, over 2000 km2 of forest disappears every year due to illegal logging, and the survival of many animal species is endangered.[4]

The main cause of excessive deforestation is rubber tree, which is a necessary raw material for the production of tires. On the one hand, this has a positive effect on the economy of Cambodia, but on the other hand, it has a catastrophic impact on nature.[5]
