Snoul Wildlife Sanctuary (Khmer: ដែនជម្រកសត្វព្រៃស្នួល) is located in eastern Cambodia on the border with Vietnam. It is classified as part of an Important Bird Area.[2] The sanctuary, which had been suffering from illegal logging and deforestation for years, was dissolved in February 2018 by a royal decree.[3] Chhay Duong Savuth, director of the Kratie province Environment Department, stated as the main reason the habitat destruction and illegal land settlement. However, a lot of the land was also claimed by private companies that received government approved licences for agriculture use. Within the predominantly level lowland Snoul Wildlife Sanctuary there are numerous grassy clearings with pools within the evergreen forest.[4] It is noticeable that a large deforestation was carried out in the period from 2000 to 2017 in the sanctuary.[5]
