Bigg Boss 5 is the fifth season of the Telugu version of the Indian reality television series Bigg Boss based on Dutch series Big Brother. The show premiered on 5 September 2021 on Star Maa and Disney+ Hotstar with Akkineni Nagarjuna as a host for the third time.[1]

The season's finale took place on 19th December 2021 with Sunny winning the title along with ₹50 lakh prize money, a bike and a plot worth ₹25 lakh while Shanmukh Jaswanth emerged as the first runner-up.[2]

Production

Delay

The fifth season of the show was planned to launch in June 2021, but it was delayed due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India.[3]

The eye of Bigg Boss is shaped in the form of a maze. It is a hint at how living in the house is a maze and only a few people can come out of it unaffected.

Teaser

The show organizers officially released the eye logo teaser on 1 August 2021. The promo shoots of the show were directed by Prasanth Varma.[4][5] On 26 August 2021, it is confirmed that the show will premiere on 5 September 2021 on Star Maa.[6]

Bigg Boss 5 Buzzz

Bigg Boss 5 Buzzz is an Indian Telugu-language television talk show about the reality television series Bigg Boss Telugu. The host Ariyana Glory conducts the talk show with the evicted contestants of Bigg Boss 5 on every Monday. The show premiered on 13 September 2021 onwards on Star Maa Music. The unseen portions of episodes that were not aired on television are streamed on Disney+ Hotstar and aired on Star Maa Music as Bigg Boss 5 Buzzz.[7]

Special Episodes

Navaratri Celebration

On Day 35, the host and housemates in the Bigg Boss House celebrated the festival Navratri, in which the contestants participated in nine games and won awards. Priya's team won seven awards while Ravi's team won two awards. The episode started at 6:00 pm rather than the usual 9:00 pm and telecasted for 3 hours. Hebah Patel, Sandhya Raju, Meenakshi Dixit, Mangli, Hyper Aadi, Akhil Akkineni and Pooja Hegde appeared as guests in this episode.

Diwali celebrations

On Day 56, the host and house mates celebrated Deepawali festival. The episode started at 6:00 pm rather than the usual 9:00 pm. Baba Bhaskar,Suma Kanakala, Monal Gajjar, Vijay Deverakonda, Shriya Saran and others joined the house to celebrate Deepawali with the house mates.

Day 5 Luxury Budget Task
  • On Day 5, Bigg Boss announced luxury budget task that the two contestants had to play the task. While a contestant was blindfolded and the other contestant had to carry him on the shoulders. The blindfolded contestant had to break 10 pots to win the luxury budget items in the pots. Vishwa and Sreerama Chandra combo was chosen for the task.

  • On Day 5, Bigg Boss announced that the contestants had to name the best and worst performers of the week and give their reasons for it. While Vishwa was named as the best performer by a majority of the contestants, Jessie was named as the worst performer.

  • On Day 8, In the nomination task, the contestants were divided into two teams - Wolf and Eagle. Each contestant had to nominate two contestants from their opponent team giving their reasons.

  • Task : Pantham Needa Naada
    On Day 9, Bigg Boss announced the captaincy contender task's that the contestants of both teams need to collect their respective batons hidden in the dugouts of the opponent teams and safeguard them. The team with more batons and flag wins and the best performers will be the captaincy contenders. Maanas is chosen as the leader of Team Wolves while Sreerama is the leader of Team Eagles. The task also continued in levels wise to compete the task.
  • Level 1 : Saagara Sodara
    In this level, contestants of both the teams need to stand with their feet split yet in contact with the feet of each other. The team with a lengthier split wins the task. Maanas and Sreerama are the Sanchalaks of this task.
    Result : The length of each team’s stretch was calculated at the end and the wolf team had 32.3 meters whereas the eagle team had 30 meters. While Team Wolves had a higher score and Team Eagles argued that one of the former's team members had lost balance and their victory was not legitimate. Bigg Boss canceled the task as the team leads Maanas and Sreerama couldn't declare a winner.
  • Level 2 : Aa Gattuna Untava Ee Gattuna Untava
    On Day 10, the task(s) continued and in this level, housemates who are divided in two teams have to drag themselves to the other side using a platform to win the task.
    Result : Team Eagles won the next round to gain a lead in the game.
  • On Day 10, Bigg Boss ordered to stop violence and warned the housemates against dire consequences. Bigg Boss then ordered the contestants to return to their dugouts and terminated the task. Therefore, Team Eagles eventually declared Team Wolves as the winner of the task. Both the teams had equal number of flags (5).
  • Level 3 : Aggi Pulla Ah Majaaka
    On Day 10, Bigg Boss gave the final task, where both teams has to arrange matchsticks into a sandpit and the fire should lead to the end of the sticks and light the camphor.
    Result : Team eagle won the task and earned a flag.

  • Captaincy Task : Kodithe Kottali Ra Kobbarikaya Kottali
    On Day 11, Team Eagle chosen Anee, Hamida, Priyanka and Vishwa as a captaincy contenders. Later, Bigg Boss announced captaincy task that all the remaiming contestants had to break coconuts and fill them into contenders beakers. Vishwa’s beaker gets filled first and he becomes the captain.

  • On Day 12, Bigg Boss announced luxury budget task that the contestant whose name was displayed on the LED screen had to catch the balls dropped from the pipes arranged in the premises then they will get the luxury budget item written on it.

    On Day 16, Bigg Boss gives captaincy contender task, "Hyderabad Ammayi America Abbayi". The housemates should portray the story of their wedding where Lahari as " Hyderabad Ammai - Bride " and Sreerama as " America Abbayi - Groom ". While Shanmukh as Marriage Broker, Lobo as Event Manager and Swetha as Event Manager's PA. Bigg Boss also gives Ravi a secret task, if he wins he gets to compete in the captaincy task.

    On Day 18, Bigg Boss makes Ravi the first captaincy contender as he aces his secret task. The contestants then nominates Jaswanth, Sreerama and Swetha as the contenders for the captaincy task. As per the task, contenders have to jump into the pool,get the alphabet blocks and fill it into the empty blocks in the garden area. Jaswanth completed the task and becomes the captain. Jaswanth picks Shanmukh as the ration manager.

  • On Day 19, Bigg Boss gives luxury budget task and the housemates have to throw balls to a velcro wall, then they will get the luxury budget item written on it.

  • On Day 22, As per the nomination task, the contestants had to pick a piece of contestants photo that they want to nominate for elimination and throw it into the swimming pool. As a result, Anee, Kajal, Lobo, Nataraj, Ravi, Siri, Shailaja Priya and Sunny were nominated for elimination in the fourth week.
Day 23,24,25 Captaincy Contender Task(s)
  • On Day 23, Bigg Boss takes away all the ration from the house and gives them a captaincy contender task, where the pairs need to reduce weight by performing a series of tasks. All contestants team up in pairs with whoever they want. The pair gaining access to the power room first will get to challenge another pair of their choice in the series of tasks. With every buzzer sound, Bigg Boss provided a food truck as a distraction during the task, whoever eats it, gets out of captaincy contender.
  • On Day 24, Bigg Boss shows a video of Lobo hiding food and eating. Jassi is seen feeding him. So, for violating the rules, Bigg Boss disqualified Jaswanth from the task along with partner Kajal and the duo cannot participate in the captaincy task.
  • On Day 25, With a 10.4kgs difference in the initial and final weight, Sunny and Maanas stood first while Sreerama Chandra-Hamida bagged the second spot with an 8.8kgs difference in weight. With a 4.4 kgs difference in weight, Anee-Swetha was the third-best couple. Out of them, Bigg Boss asks them to choose any three for captaincy contender and after a lot of discussions, Sreeram Chandra, Shweta and Sunny were chosen as contenders for captaincy.

Day 25 Captaincy Task
  • Captaincy Task : Kathulatho Sahavasam
    On Day 25, The captaincy nominations had Sunny, Swetha and Sreerama wearing a thick waist belt. The remaining contestants had to stick a knife into the belt of the contestant who they feel is not deserving of the captaincy. Sreerama Chandra was declared the captain for this week as he had the least number of knives in his belt.
Day 26 Luxury Budget Task
  • On Day 26, Bigg Boss then announced the luxury task titled Oohlala lala. This task required the contestant whose name will show up on the LED TV hoola hoop for 30 seconds so they can win the corresponding luxury item.
Weekly Performance
  • On Day 26, Bigg Boss asked the couples from captaincy contender tasks to nominate a best and worst contestant for the week. While Maanas was voted the best contestant and the worst contestant was left to the captain’s choice by Bigg Boss. Sreerama asked the remaining contestants to vote for the worst contestant. As a result, Jaswanth became as worst performer of the week.

  • On Day 29, The nomination task begins, Bigg boss calls for personal nominations in the confession room. Later, Bigg Boss announces that Hamida, Jaswanth, Lobo, Maanas, Priya, Ravi, Shanmukh, Sunny and Viswa are in nominations and showed who nominated them.
Day 30,31,32 Captaincy Contender Task(s)
  • Task : Rajayaniki Okkade Raju
    On Day 30, According to the captaincy contender task, Ravi and Sunny were the princes competing for the throne. The two had a treasure chest each and they must use coins to convince and trade with other inmates to join them.
  • Mud - Pit Task :-
    As part of the task, both the princes must nominate three members each for the Kusti task in the wrestling pits. Sreerama Chandra was the Sanchalak of the task. Sunny chosen Maanas, Jaswanth and Priyanka from his team while Ravi chosen Vishwa, Anee and Swetha from his team. Maanas and Vishwa fought in the task and Vishwa won it. He belongs to team Ravi. Priyanka and Swetaa fought in the task and Swetaa won it. She belongs to team Ravi. Jaswanth and Anne fought in the task, and Jessie won it. He belongs to team Sunny.
    Result : Ravi team won the task.
  • Raju Gari Goda :-
    On Day 31, Bigg Boss erected two walls in the garden area. The two teams will have to fix the pictures of Ravi or Sunny on the walls. By the end of the task, the wall that consists of a maximum number of photos of either Ravi or Sunny will decide the winner. Maanas and Jaswanth played on Sunny’s side. Sreerama and Vishwa played on Ravi’s side.
    Result : Team Sunny won the task.
  • Lakko Lakko Thaadu :-
    It’s a tug of war between the two teams. Team Sunny won the task.
  • On Day 32, Bigg Boss has asked the Captain to Count the number of Coins each Contestant had with them. Sreerama counted all and reported to Bigg Boss. Sunny’s Kingdom has more coins Compare to Ravi’s Kindom. But King Ravi has more number of Contestants with them than King Sunny. Based on the number of Contestanst Ravi team won the task and became King and also Captancy Contender.

Day 32 Captaincy Task
  • On Day 32, Since Ravi won the captaincy contender task, Ravi is the first captaincy contender. Bigg Boss asked Ravi to select three of the housemates from his team for competing to captancy role. Ravi selected Hamida, Annee and Swetha. Later Bigg Boss gave a surprise to Priya that she can also be a captancy contender but must swap with the selected contenders. Then Hamida stepped down from captancy contender and Priya stood for it. As a result, Anee, Priya, Ravi and Swetha participated in captaincy task.
  • Bigg Boss gives captaincy task and the contenders have to protect water from their tanks. Shannu is the sanchalak. Priya won the task and became as captain of the house.

  • On Day 36, Bigg Boss given 2800 points with having 200 points for each housemate and later bigg boss asked them to choose the luxary budget items through the led screen by using remote. After three buzzers, housemates spended 1900 points for luxary budget items and written on the board.

  • On Day 36, Bigg Boss asked all the housemates to select two persons photos and told to burn in the fire setuped infront of them. As a result, Jaswanth, Lobo, Priyanka, Ravi, Shanmukh, Siri, Sreerama, Sunny, Swetha and Vishwa were nominated for eviction this week.
Day 37,38,39 Captaincy Contender Task(s)
  • Task : BB Bommala Factory
    On Day 37, In the captaincy contender task, the contestants were divided into four teams - Blue, Yellow, Red and Green. Siri was the manager of Teams Red and Green while Kajal was the manager of Teams Yellow and Blue. Each team had to prepare dolls by collecting raw materials sent through the conveyor belt. Kajal and Siri assessed the dolls made by their opponent teams. Captaincy contenders will be selected from the team with more accepted dolls and managers with teams making more accepted dolls also get eligibility to be a captaincy contender.

  • On Day 37, Teams competed to collect raw materials in every round.
    Special Power 1 : Ravi, Lobo, and Swetha get a special toy which can make them take all the toys from others team. Ravi announces the same and they will take the toys of the green team.
  • On Day 39, On Day 39, When Team Red had 17 dolls and Team Green had 24 dolls, Siri threw a few dolls into the rejected bin. Team Blue then had 17 dolls while Team Yellow had 14 dolls. Bigg Boss asked Sreerama Chandra, Priya and Vishwa to disclose their special power.
    Special power 2 : According to this power, they can reject half of their opponent team's dolls. They chose Team Green. Later, Bigg Boss informed that Lobo and Sweta tore the cushions during the task and Kajal and Siri have failed in stopping this violation as Sanchalaks. Hence, Team Green, Siri and Kajal got disqualified as captaincy contenders. Red and Blue teams then selected for captaincy task.

Day 39 Captaincy Task
  • On Day 39, Anee, Maanas, Priya, Sreerama, Sunny and Vishwa were the other captaincy contenders. In this task, the contenders had to collect sand and fill in their respective containers crossing the obstacles in the path. Jaswanth was the Sanchalak of the task. Vishwa filled his container with more volumes of sand than the rest of the contenders and won the task to become as new captain.

Ration Manager Task
  • On Day 39, Vishwa became Captain of the House. Bigg Boss asked Vishwa to tell three names of those who he wants to make Ration manager, then he gave names of Sunny, Manas and Priyanka. Bigg Boss given separate task for Ration Manager. Priyanka singh won and became Ration Manager for this week.
Day 40 Luxary Budget Task
  • Task : Pagalagottina Varidhe Pandga
    On Day 40, Bigg Boss kept a piggy bags on garden area with containing luxary budget items. Later announced that five different pairs of housemates had to perform five several challenges and who will wins they can broke piggy bags and gets the luxary budget items.

  • On Day 40, Bigg Boss asked all the Housemates to give Worst Contestant a Stamp of Worst on their T-Shirt. Majority of the Housemates elected Swetha as worst Housemate.

Day 41 Sudden Eviction Task
  • On Day 41, Host Nagarjuna asked all the contestants individually in the confession room that, " Which contestant is unfit in the Bigg Boss house ". Sunny, Kajal, Vishwa, and Lobo picked up Priya’s name. Anne, Shanmukh, Swetha and Siri picked up Lobo’s name. Both of them got 4 votes each. Maanas picked Sreerama Chandra. Priyanka, Ravi, and Priya picked Kajal’s name. Sreerama Chandra and Jaswanth picked Ravi’s name.
  • Later, Nagarjuna announced that Bigg Boss has given a special Bigg twist by granting the power to send one housemate out of the house and asked the housemates to pick one housemate from Priya and Lobo. Vishwa, Sunny, Ravi, and Kajal stood with Lobo. The rest of the house stood with Priya. Thus, Lobo was picked and he came to the Bigg Boss stage with Nagarjuna.
  • Nagarjuna almost bid goodbye to Lobo and he has become emotional for leaving the house but in the end, he told him that he is saved by the audience but he will be going to the Secret Room.

  • On Day 43, Bigg Boss told Lobo that he was directly nominated for eviction through host Nagarjuna.
  • On Day 43, In the nomination task of the week, Sunny, Sreerama Chandra and Jaswanth were chosen as the hunters who sat in their Dera area. The rest of the housemates had to grab the two bananas placed inside the house upon a buzzer. The first two contestants who grabbed the two bananas got a chance to nominate a contestant each stating their reasons. The hunter can take a call on the contestant's nomination. Hunter can cut the monkey with a contestant's picture hanging from the safe tree if the reason given was convincing to him. The hunter can also reject the nomination.
  • As a result, Anee, Jaswanth, Kajal, Lobo, Priya, Ravi, Siri and Sreerama were nominated for eviction this week.
Day 44,45 Captaincy Contender Task(s)
  • Task : Bangaru Kodi Petta
    On Day 44, In this task, the housemates had to grab eggs from the hen's hatchet upon a buzzer and label them with stickers of their pictures. The housemates had to collect eggs during occasional egg rains and safeguard their respective eggs in shelves. Bigg Boss asked Vishwa to count and report the eggs in the shelves of the contestants. After the 1st round, Maanas and Sunny had more eggs.
  • On Day 44, Vishwa won a chance to take part in the special tasks. He chosen Kajal for the task and later they played a game. The contestant among the two, who wears maximum clothes will get 5 extra eggs. Vishwa won it.
  • On Day 44, Jaswanth was assigned a secret task in the Bigg Boss house. Bigg Boss asked him to make sure three contestants are left with no eggs by the end of the game. Bigg Boss also told Jessie that he can take assistance from any of the inmates. Jessie took Siri’s assistance. They spoke to Priya, Priyanka, and Shanmukh who agreed to keep their egg count zero.
  • On Day 45, Sreerama won a chance to take part in the special task. He chosen Anee and later they played a game where they will have to hold ducks in their hands and make sure they don’t put them on the ground. Anee won the task and won 5 extra eggs.
  • On Day 45, Maanas got a special egg and he was given a special task. He picked Sunny to play against him. According to the task, the person who eats spicy noodles will get 5 extra eggs. Compared to Maanas, Sunny eats more and gains the 5 eggs.
  • On Day 45, Jaswanth was given a secret task in the Bigg Boss house. He was asked to make the score of 3 contestants zero. However, Jessie failed to understand his task and then he completely lost in executing the same. Bigg Boss disqualified Jessie from playing the captaincy task.
  • On Day 45, After the 2nd round, Bigg Boss announced Maanas, Sunny, Vishwa, Sreerama, Ravi had more eggs and selected as captaincy contestants.
  • On Day 45, Lobo made his re-entry into the Bigg Boss house. He bought a black egg and golden egg with him. He gave the black egg to Sreerama Chandra, preventing him from entering into the captaincy task. At the same time, he gave the golden egg to Kajal allowing her to be a part of the captaincy task.

Bigg Boss gave Sunny a special power to nominate Jaswanth for eviction by shredding his letter or nominate someone else directly for eviction by giving Jaswanth his letter. Sunny told the same to the contestants. Sreerama volunteered to sacrifice his letter for Jaswanth. Eventually, Lobo, Maanas, Ravi, Shanmukh, Siri and Sreerama Chandra got nominated for the week.

  • Task : Abhaya Hastam
    On Day 51, In this task, the Bigg Boss house was locked. The housemates had to discuss and decide the contenders for every challenge in the task. The contestants winning a challenge got access to the house along with the eligibility for captaincy contender.
  • Challenge 1 : Mattilo Muthyalu
    Shanmukh and Lobo chosen for first challenge. In this task, they both had to pick one pearl at a time from the pit filled with mud and dung. They had to clean the pearl and drop it in another bowl. Sunny was the Sanchalak of the task. Shanmukh had more pearls than Lobo. Sunny eventually declared Shanmukh as the winner of the task. Shanmukh became the first captaincy contender and gained access to the house.
  • Challenge 2 : Galam Marche Mee Kalam
    Ravi and Siri competed in the second challenge according to which they had to pull bottles from the bottom of the pool with their fishing rods. Siri was the winner of the task and became the second captaincy contender. She was granted access to the house.
  • Challenge 3: Tadula Takhadami
    Maanas and Sreerama competed in the challenge where they had to swing the ropes with both hands. Maanas gave up during the task and Sreerama became the next captaincy contender.
  • Challenge 4: Rangupaduddi
    On Day 52, Anee and Priyanka were chosen for the fourth challenge. They had to paint the canvas with their respective Red and Blue colours. Sanchalak Sunny declared Anee as the winner.
  • Challenge 5: Carlo Hussharugha
    Sunny and Kajal were chosen for the fifth challenge. They had to collect more flower bouquets at a distance by crawling on a toy car. Sanchalak Manaas declared Sunny as the winner of the challenge.
  • Challenge 6: Bantilo Undi Baghyam
    Bigg Boss given a special chance to the rest of the 7 contestants to become the captaincy contender. They had to stand outside a ring and try to grab the ball placed in the centre once the buzzer rings. The one, who grabs the ball, will get a chance to kick a co-contender from the task. Maanas managed to grab the ball first back to back and kicked all his competitors from the race. He became the captaincy contender.
