Buhay Hayaan Yumabong (transl. Let Life Prosper), more popularly known as Buhay Party-List, is a party-list group in the Philippines founded on October 20, 1999 by Lito Atienza, Melquiades Robles, and El Shaddai founder Mike Velarde.[1][2] A "pro-life"party-list, Buhay is known for its staunch opposition to abortion and birth control in its advocacy for the sanctity of life.[3] The party-list is also known for opposing the death penalty, divorce, same sex marriage, and euthanasia.[4]

In November 2021, El Shaddai announced that it was cutting ties with the party-list, ending two decades of close association with the party-list and the religious group.[5]

Electoral performance[]

In the 2004 election for the House of Representatives, the party-list group received 705,730 votes (5.5473% of the nationwide party-list vote)[6] and two seats.[7] In the 2007 election, the party won three seats in the nationwide party-list vote. In the 2010 elections, Buhay won two seats with 1,249,555 votes, finishing in third place after Ako Bicol and Senior Citizens Partylist. In 2013, Buhay topped the 2013 party-list elections after garnering 1,255,808 votes and was the sole party-list to win all three seats. The party-list's popularity declined in the 2016 election and in the 2019 election, winning only 2.35% and 1.30% of the votes respectively.
