Carrum railway station is located on the Frankston line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Carrum, and it opened on 1 August 1882.[1]

Boom barriers replaced interlocked gates at the former Station Street level crossing, which was located at the Up end of the station, in 1977.[2] The interlocked gates were originally installed in 1947, and was the last installation of interlocking gates in Victoria.[1]

In 1988, siding "A" and the goods platform was abolished, as well as the connection from siding "B" to the mainline.[1]

Approximately 100 metres south of the station was a stabling yard that could hold a number of trains. The stabling yard was provided in 1990.[1] It was replaced due to the level crossing removal works, with the yard relocating to Kananook in May 2020.[3]

It was upgraded to a Premium Station on 20 December 1995.[4]

Additional shelters were added to the station in October 2015, along with an upgrade of the toilets on Platform 1.[5]

A signal box was located on Platform 1, which controlled a crossover to allow trains to terminate here. The interlocked frame at this signal box was abolished in 1976, and was replaced by a control panel.[6] The signal box was abolished on 20 July 2019.[7]

The station was rebuilt as part of the Level Crossing Removal Project.[8] The Station Street level crossing was removed on 17 May 2019, and was followed by the closure of the station in the early hours of 6 July 2019, with a small number of enthusiasts being there to witness the last trains. The station buildings were demolished shortly afterwards. A new elevated rail line and station was opened on 17 February 2020.[9][10][11]
