Castaways Beach is a coastal suburb in the Shire of Noosa, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2016 census Castaways Beach had a population of 656 people.[1]

It is located 7 kilometres (4 mi) south of Noosa Heads.

The suburb is bounded to the east by the Coral Sea and to the west by Lake Weyba.[3] Apart from the eastern strip of housing along the coast, most of Castaways Beach is within the Noosa National Park.[3]

Castaways Creek rises in the south of the suburb and flows east into the Coral Sea (

History[]

Between 2008 and 2013 Castaways Beach was within the Sunshine Coast Region (following an unpopular local government amalgamation that was subsequently reversed).[8]

In the 2006 census the population of Castaways Beach was 617 people.[9]

At the 2011 census the suburb recorded a population of 606.[10]

In the 2016 census Castaways Beach had a population of 656 people.[1]

Demographics[]

By 2011 the population was 606 showing a population decline of 1% in the area since the 2006 census. The predominant age group in Castaways Beach is 45–54 years.[10]

Households in Castaways Beach are primarily couples with children and are likely to be repaying between $1800 - $2400 per month on mortgage repayments. In general, people in Castaways Beach work in a professional occupation. In 2006, 81.9% of the homes in Castaways Beach were owner-occupied compared with 80.0% in 2011. Currently the median sales price of houses in the area is $758,750.[11]

Education[]

There are no schools in Castaways Beach. The nearest government primary and secondary school are Sunshine Beach State School and Sunshine Beach State High School, both in Sunshine Beach to the north.[3]
