Chain Gate (Jerusalem)

The Bab al-Silsila ^[1] is one of the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque within the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. It is located in the western porch of the mosque in the Islamic Quarter between the in the north and the Altaknuzia School in the south.

Building[]

The Bab Al-Silsila building was renovated in the Ayyubid period in 1200. It has two entrances: the first one is called the Al-Sakina Gate, and it is closed and only opens to necessity, and the second is called the Bab Al-Silsila, and it is open. And both doors have a rectangular entrance with a height of 4.5 m, as it is considered one of the doors of the maximum height, and there is a small entrance opening that is sufficient for one person to enter when it is closed.^[2]
