Between 1870s to 1940s, the U.S. city of Phoenix, Arizona had a Chinatown.[1] The community scattered throughout the city thereafter.[2] Sources from a research project indicate that more than one Chinatown existed in the city of Phoenix, with one around First Street and Madison[3][4] and a second at First and Adams Street in the present location of the Talking Stick Resort Arena.

History[]

The first Chinatown at First and Adams Street, in downtown Phoenix was established by Chinese railroad workers, where currently the Talking Stick Resort Arena is located. All the buildings from the original Chinatown have been demolished, except the Sun Mercantile Building at the intersection of Third Street and Jackson.[5]
