Eryn Shewell (born June 26, 1984) is an American jazz and blues guitarist and vocalist from Jackson, New Jersey, United States.

Early life[]

Eryn Shewell was born on June 26, 1984 in Washington, D.C. to a family of Dutch, German, and English ancestry.

In 1989 Shewell's parents divorced and she moved with her mother to New Jersey. She travelled back and forth from New Jersey to Maryland till her father finally moved to New Jersey in 1992. The family settled in Jackson, New Jersey. Where Shewell went to high school and graduated in 2002.

Shewell is married to Matt O'Ree.[2][3][4][5]

Career[]

Early career[]

Shewell studied music theory and voice at Jackson Memorial High School in Jackson, New Jersey. After high school, Shewell joined the New Orleans funk band The Soul Project and began travelling to New Orleans on a regular basis. She met Walter "Wolfman" Washington, with whom she recorded backing vocals on one of his albums.

Recent years[]

Shewell started The Eryn Shewell Band in 2006 She has been nominated for numerous Asbury Park Music Awards. In 2009, Shewell was the recipient of the Asbury Park Music Award for Top Female Vocalist. In 2011, she was again named Top Female Vocalist, and The Eryn Shewell Band was named the Top Blues Band.[6]

On September 11, 2016, Shewell and her husband Matt O'Ree were inducted into the NY/NJ Blues Hall of Fame.[7]
