Fandangos is a brand of puffcorn snack made by Elma Chips, Brazilian representative of Frito-Lay and a subsidiary of PepsiCo. The snack was introduced in 1983,[1] as a parallel to the Cheetos, in corn flavor and also in a shell shape. In a short time the brand became almost as popular with the Brazilian public as Cheetos and over time it started to be made in other flavors like cheese and ham. In 2017 a version of the brand made with whole flour was sold.[2]
The brand has as its mascot the scarecrow called Spiguy introduced in 1993, one year before the introduction of Chester Cheetah in Brazil. Until 2005, Spiguy used to look more like a real scarecrow wearing a straw hat, but nowadays the character has a teenage look wearing a green baseball cap. Sometimes Spiguy is called as Spiggy.[3]
Flavors[]
Fandangos is known for being sold in two traditional flavors: cheese and ham. For a short period, the snack was sold in other flavors like: steak, pizza, barbecue[4] and corn. Other variations of the product sold for a short period were Fandangos Pipoca (Popcorn) in the flavors butter and barbecue, and also Fandoce a sweetened version in chocolate and churro flavors.[5]
