Frank John Mrvan (/mərˈvæn/;[1] born April 16, 1969) is an American politician who has served as the U.S. representative for Indiana's 1st congressional district since 2021. From 2005 until 2021, he served as the township trustee for North Township, Indiana.
Born in Hammond, Indiana, Mrvan ran for the House of Representatives after the retirement of incumbent and fellow Democrat Pete Visclosky, and was endorsed by Visclosky in the primary.
Early life and career[]
Mrvan was born and raised in Hammond, Indiana. After graduating from Oliver P. Morton High School, Mrvan earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ball State University.[2]
Mrvan worked as a licensed mortgage broker and pharmaceutical sales representative.[3] In November 2005, Mrvan was appointed as the township trustee for North Township, Indiana, when his predecessor resigned.[4]

After Pete Visclosky, the incumbent member of the United States House of Representatives in Indiana's 1st congressional district, decided not to run for reelection in the 2020 elections, Mrvan announced his candidacy.[5] Mrvan received endorsements from Visclosky and the local chapter of the United Steelworkers.[6] He won the Democratic Party nomination with 33% of the vote in a field of 14 candidates, including Thomas McDermott Jr. and Mara Candelaria Reardon. He faced Republican Mark Leyva in the November general election,[7][8] and won with 57% of the vote.[9]
Mrvan took office on January 3, 2021.[10] He voted in favor of the second impeachment of Donald Trump, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, and the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, which he co-sponsored.[11]
As of October 2021, Mrvan had voted in line with Joe Biden's stated position 100% of the time.[12]

Personal life[]
Mrvan and his wife, Jane (née Trimble), have two children.[14]
His father, Frank Mrvan, is also a politician, elected repeatedly to the Indiana Senate.[15]
