In medicine, gonadal vein refers to the blood vessel that carries blood away from the gonad (testis, ovary) toward the heart. These are different arteries in women and men, with the same embryological origin.[1]
- Female: ovarian vein.[1]
- Male: testicular vein.[1]
The left gonadal vein drains into the left renal vein, whereas the right drains directly into the inferior vena cava.
