The Great Northern Mall is a regional shopping mall located in the Syracuse suburb of Clay, New York.

In addition to its 3 main retail stores, and one small sports store, the mall serves for Syracuse's northern suburbs and Onondaga County. In recent years,[when?] many retailers have closed their stores within the mall. The mall has four vacant anchors last occupied by Sears, The Bon-Ton (formerly Dey Brothers then Chappell's), Macy's (formerly Sibley's then Kaufmann's), and Dick's Sporting Goods (formally Hess's) in 2018, 2006, 2017, and 2021 respectively. As of 2017, nearly half of the available space for retailers sit vacant.

In 2015, Sears Holdings spun off 235 of its properties, including the Sears at Great Northern Mall, into Seritage Growth Properties.[2]

On January 4, 2017, Macy's announced that its store would be closing as part of a plan to close 68 stores nationwide. The store closed in April 2017.[3]

On June 28, 2018, Sears announced that its Great Northern store would be closing as part of a plan to close 78 stores nationwide. The store closed in late September 2018.[4]

Regal Cinemas closed on October 9, 2020.[5]

On December 10, 2020, Dick's Sporting Goods announced that it would be relocating to a former Value City Furniture space, which was in a portion of the former Chase-Pitkin, at a Wegmans anchored shopping center less than a mile away from the mall on July 10, 2021, which left the mall with no anchors left.[6]
