SIMBADdata

HD 53501, also known as HR 2662, or Gliese 3422, is a high proper motion solitary star in Volans.

Distance and Visibility[]

HD 53501 has an apparent magnitude of 5.17, making it visible to the naked eye under good conditions. It is currently 308 light years away from the Earth based on parallax, and has a radial velocity of +40 km/s, which means it's drifting away from the Solar System.

Properties[]

This star is a K3III giant.[9] The "III" in its spectral class means that HD 53501 is a giant star that has exhausted hydrogen at its core and evolved off the main sequence. It has a mass similar to the Sun, but has expanded to over 20 times its radius and is radiating 135 times its luminosity at an effective temperature of 4,140 K.
