Haunted Mansion is an upcoming American family-horror film directed by Justin Simien from a screenplay by Katie Dippold, and stars Rosario Dawson as Gabbie, Tiffany Haddish as Harriet, Lakeith Stanfield as Ben Matthias, Owen Wilson, and Danny DeVito. The film is based on the Disneyland ride of the same name, and will be distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.

Haunted Mansion is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 10, 2023.

Premise[]

A single mom named Gabbie hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest, and a historian to help exorcise their newly bought mansion after discovering it is inhabited by ghosts.

Production[]

The film was first announced in July 2010, when Guillermo del Toro was hired to write and direct a new film based on the Disneyland theme park attraction The Haunted Mansion for Walt Disney Pictures.[2] The project remained in various stages of development, until Ryan Gosling entered negotiations to star in April 2015.[3]

In August 2020, it was announced that Katie Dippold signed on to write a new screenplay for the film, after it was decided that del Toro's script was too scary for family audiences. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich were hired as producers. The project will be a joint-venture production between Walt Disney Pictures and Rideback.[4][5] By April 2021, Justin Simien entered early-negotiations to direct the film,[6] and was officially confirmed as director by July 2021. Tiffany Haddish, Lakeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, and Danny DeVito were each cast to appear in the film.[7][8][9][10]

Principal photography ran from mid-October 2021 to late February 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana and Atlanta, Georgia.[8][10] On January 14, 2022, Haunted Mansion actress Tiffany Haddish got into legal trouble after being arrested on a DUI charge as filming for the movie was still taking place in Georgia.[11]

Release[]

The film is scheduled for release on March 10, 2023.[1]
