Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 railway station (also known as Heathrow Central) serves Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 (and formerly Terminal 1 before its closure)[2] at London Heathrow Airport.

It is served by Heathrow Express trains direct to central London and TfL Rail trains that stop at local stations. It is 14 miles 50 chains (23.5 km) down-line from London Paddington.

Transport for London Travelcards are not valid on Express services from the station. Passengers transferring between any of the terminals at Heathrow may use the trains free of charge.

Services[]

The station has services running direct to Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 5 provided by Heathrow Express, normally running every 15 minutes, and by TfL Rail, normally running every half hour and stopping at most intermediate stations. It is also serviced by the Heathrow Terminal 4 shuttle, which runs between this location and Heathrow Terminal 4 approximately every 15 minutes.

The station was opened on 23 June 1998 upon the completion of the Heathrow Express Rail Link linking Heathrow Airport with direct non-stop services to Central London. In contrast to the stations Terminals 4 and 5, the platforms at Heathrow Central do not lie adjacent to the London Underground Piccadilly line platforms at Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 station. Instead they lie perpendicular, and at a far deeper level. The reasoning behind this is because the Heathrow Express line was tunnelled into Heathrow from the north, whereas the Piccadilly line approaches from the east. Access to the station is reached via an underground pedestrian walkway which links Terminal 3 to the Central Bus Station and the Piccadilly line's Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 station.

Since May 2018, the station has been served by TfL Rail, part of the new Crossrail project, replacing the Heathrow Connect service. Services initially run as far as London Paddington calling at all intermediate stations. Towards Paddington, TfL Rail services operate along the Eastern end of the Great Western Main Line calling at Hayes & Harlington, Southall, Hanwell, West Ealing where it connects with the Greenford branch, Ealing Broadway, Acton Main Line and finally London Paddington where it connects with all National Rail services on GWR and the London Underground network. In October 2020, the service will be rebranded the Elizabeth Line, and in December 2021 the full route opens, running through Central London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.
