KRKC-FM (102.1 FM, "Pop1021") is a radio station licensed to King City, California in the Monterey, California radio market. It is owned by Dimes Media Corporation. The Monterey/Salinas/Santa Cruz market includes all of Monterey County and Santa Cruz County.

History and overview[]

KRKC FM/AM was owned by King City Communications Corporation from 1982-2021. Dimes Media took ownership of the stations on July 28, 2021. Pop1021 plays a mix of classic hits from the past 25 years. Pop1021 also covers Northern San Luis Obispo County the Big Sur region and other portions of the Central Coast of California. Monterey is Nielsen Rated Market #91. The 91st largest metro area in the United States. The 12+ population is estimated at 605,000. The overall population of the Monterey-Salinas-Santa Cruz Market is 725,000 The transmitter for Pop1021 is located at Pop1021 is at 102.1 on the FM dial. It is an FCC authorized Class B 50,000 watt signal. Pop1021 features a Classic Hits format of the past 25 years of number one hits. Its sister stations KRKC 1490AM 101.5 and 104.9 FM. Its on-air slogan is "KRKC Country".

Notable personalities[]

The main DJ personality on Pop1021 is (31 years) in afternoon drive. Long time General Manager semi-retired in 2012. Gittler served as GM for 30 years and is still involved with the stations, 102.1, 101.5 106.9 104.9 and 1490AM. Michael Davis is a former Music Director and on air DJ personality at rock station KNAC/Los Angeles and was also Music Director/DJ at KFMG/Albuquerque. Michael Davis is a 39-year broadcast professional. 21 year station vet Jim Barker retired in Feb 2016. Other DJs on Pop1021 include The Kidd Kraddick Morning show Doughboy and Flashback. Pop1021 news updates are handled by News Director Darren Nutt. Former KSBW-TV/Monterey (NBC) weather personality Jim Vanderzwaan provides forecast updates. Friday nights at 5PM (during football season) is the NFL predictions feature with Michael Davis and . That show, with Davis and Berlin concluded it's 15th season in Feb 2021 NFL season. Lola Berlin died just a week after the final show for the 2021 playoffs. Other frequent guests include other Pop1021 personalities Laura Gomez and Daniela "DJD" Martinez.
