Karishma Tanna (born 21 December 1983)[1][2][3] is an Indian actress, model and anchor who predominantly works in Hindi films and television shows. She made her debut with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2001. She is well known for her roles in Baalveer and Qayamat Ki Raat.

She was a contestant and first runner-up in the reality show Bigg Boss in 2014. She also appeared in other reality shows like Zara Nachke Dikha (2008), Nach Baliye (2015) and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (2016). In 2020, she participated and emerged as the winner of Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 10.[8][9][10]

Tanna made her film debut as Nandini Thapar in Bollywood industry with Suneel Darshan's Dosti: Friends Forever (2006). In 2013, she was seen in Indra Kumar's successful comedy Grand Masti.[11] In June 2018, she featured in Rajkumar Hirani's biopic of Sanjay Dutt titled Sanju.[12] The same year she entered digital world with ALT Balaji's web series Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat as Zoya Hussain.[13]

Early life[]

Tanna was born and brought up in a Gujarati family.[2] She lives with her mother, and is very close to her; her father died in October 2012[14]

Career[]

2000–2006: Acting debut and Dosti: Friends Forever[]

Tanna appeared in Balaji Telefilms' soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi[15] where she played the character Indu.[16][17] She appeared in Balaji Telefilms' drama production, Kahi To Milenge.

Tanna worked as the female lead for the TV series Koi Dil Mein Hai as Krutika. Tanna signed up with project while still working for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, as her role in Kyunki was not that of a major character. Moreover, Koi Dil Mein Hai was a weekly show. Tanna worked for the TV program Ek Ladki Anjaani Si playing the negative character Ayesha.[18] Tanna made her Bollywood debut with the December 2005 film Dosti: Friends Forever, playing Nandini Thapar.

Tanna has acted in several television advertisements, including for Stayfree, Lifebuoy and Nirma.[19]

Tanna was also part of Rajshri Productions show Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam.[20][21] BR Films signed her up for their drama TV series, Viraasat.[20] She played Natasha, a secretary.[22]

In September 2006, Tanna made her theater debut with the Hinglish farce/romantic comedy Perfect Wedding, directed by Vandana Sajnani. The work was adapted from Robin Howdon's British play of the same name.[20][23]

2007–2013: Television hosting and Grand Masti[]

Tanna participated in stage-based comedy TV series Comedy Circus, that started in June 2007.[24] She later came back in Comedy Circus Mahasangram in February 2010.[25] In 2008, she participated in Zara Nachke Dikha in the winning team. She later participated in Kaun Jeetega Bollywood Ka Ticket and Kaho Na Yaar Hai.

She presented reality shows Kaante Ki Takkar and Comedy Champions. Tanna hosted a magic-based reality TV show, India's Magic Star, that went on air in July 2010.[26][27] In August 2010, she participated in Imagine TV's Meethi Choori No 1. She played the role of Avni in Star One's Jaane Pehchaane Se... Ye Ajnabbi.

In 2011, she participated in Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout.[28] Later in the same year she played Ms Jaffery in Sony TV's Adaalat. In 2012, she acted in the children's television program, Baal Veer, playing Rani Pari.[29]

In September 2013, Grand Masti, a Bollywood sex comedy and a sequel to April 2004 film, Masti was released.[30]

2014–present: Bigg Boss 8, Naagin 3 and further success[]

Tanna was a celebrity contestant in the popular controversial Colors show, Bigg Boss 8, which started airing in September 2014. She spent full 4 months inside the house and became a finalist and the first runner-up.[31][32][33][34][35] In 2015, Tanna participated in seventh season of dance couple reality show Nach Baliye along with Upen Patel.[36] In November 2015, Karishma appeared as a celebrity guest in Star Plus's talk show Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi, which was hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.

In March 2016, Karishma made a guest appearance in the popular stunt reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi in its seventh season.[37] Tanna appeared as a celebrity guest in the popular comedy show Comedy Nights Bachao, which aired on Colors TV with Upen in February and later in August 2016 for promoting Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.[38] She again made a small cameo appearance in Comedy Nights Bachao along with Helly Shah for one episode.[39] Karishma participated in the celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa in 2016.[40][41] Tanna played a naagin in Life OK's show Naagarjuna – Ek Yoddha.[42] In January 2017, Tanna was judging BIG Magic's reality show Big Memsaab along with Sambhavna Seth and Pritam Singh in 2017.

In April 2018, she appeared in ALT Balaji's Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat as Zoya.[43] In May 2018, Tanna played a cameo in Colors TV's supernatural series Naagin 3. In June 2018, Tanna acted in Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju[12] and played the lead in Ekta Kapoor's Qayamat Ki Raat as Gauri.[44]

In February 2019, Tanna participated in Kitchen Champion 5 along with Karan Tacker. Later in May 2019, she participated in Khatra Khatra Khatra. In 2020, she participated in Colors TV's stunt reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 and emerged as the winner.[8] In November 2020, she appeared in Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari in the song "Basanti".[45]

In 2021, Tanna appeared in the web series Bullets (which was previously titled as Tina and Lolo).[46] Tanna's character had been earlier offered to Minissha Lamba, but Lamba opted out as the script required her kissing Sunny Leone.[47]

Personal life[]

Tanna started dating actor Upen Patel in 2014 when they met inside the Bigg Boss 8 house and later was engaged to him.[48][6] In 2016, they ended their relationship.[7]
