Kaye Gorenflo Hearn (born January 30, 1950)[1] is a justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. She has been on the court since 2010.

Education and legal career[]

She is a graduate of Bethany College, the University of South Carolina School of Law, and the University of Virginia School of Law. Following her graduation from law school, Hearn clerked for South Carolina Supreme Court justice Julius "Bubba" Ness and then practiced law in Horry County, South Carolina. Prior to her service on the Supreme Court, Hearn was elected to the South Carolina Family Court and was the Chief Judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals. Currently, she maintains a chambers in Columbia and in her home of Conway. Her husband, former member of the legislature, is a family law attorney in town.[2][3] Two of her former law clerks have been elected as judges in South Carolina, Kristi Curtis and the late Tanya Gee.

Justice Hearn is also holder of honorary degrees from institutions including the Charleston School of Law, Francis Marion University, and the University of South Carolina.[4][5]
