Khabane "Khaby" Lame (born 9 March 2000) is a Senegalese TikToker based in Italy.[1] He became known for his short comedy skits where he sarcastically and wordlessly ridicules people who seem to unreasonably complicate simple tasks.[2] As of 2 September 2021, Lame has amassed over 111 million followers and over 1.7 billion likes,[3] making him the second most-followed TikTok account.[4][5][6]

Early life

Lame was born to a devout Muslim family[7] in Senegal on 9 March 2000[8] and raised in a public housing complex in Chivasso, Italy, since the age of one,[9][10] where he still lives. He practiced athletics such as football and basketball;[11] in high school, he played in the junior-level basketball championships.[10]

Before TikTok, Lame worked as a CNC machine operator.[12] He also experienced financial issues, which he overcame via his TikTok videos.[2]

Career

Lame began posting on TikTok in March 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns.[12] In December 2020, he modeled for the magazine DLuiRepubblica.[13] On 26 April 2021, he overtook Gianluca Vacchi as the most-followed Italian TikToker.[14] Lame currently has over 111 million followers on TikTok, making him the second most-followed TikToker worldwide.[3] He also has over 34.8 million followers on Instagram, after having beaten Chiara Ferragni as most followed Italian on the platform.[15]

Personal life

Lame is engaged to Zaira Nucci from Sciacca, as announced on Instagram in October 2020.[16]

In a June 2021 interview with The New York Times, Lame stated that although he has been living in Italy since he was an infant, he does not possess an Italian passport or citizenship, only having a Senegalese passport.[2]

Lame is a fan of Juventus;[17] on 18 August 2021, Lame appeared as a co-star for the club's announcement of a new player, Manuel Locatelli.[18]
