Life and career[]

Early life and career beginnings[]

Kim Min-ju was born on February 5, 2001. She has a younger sister and an older brother. She attended School of Performing Arts Seoul and graduated in February 2020.[3] Prior to joining the reality girl group survival show Produce 48, she had appeared as an actress in music videos and Korean dramas, notably the 2018 MBC television series Tempted, wherein she portrayed the role of the young Choi Su-ji (Moon Ga-young).[4][5]

2018–present: Produce 48, Iz*One, solo activities[]

From June to August 2018, Kim represented Urban Works on Produce 48 where she eventually placed eleventh and debuted with Iz*One. On October 29, 2018, the group released their first extended play (EP) Color*Iz which received immediate commercial success, selling over 225,000 units and peaking at number 2 on South Korea's Gaon Album Chart. In addition, both the EP and its lead single "La Vie en Rose" charted on Billboard World Albums and World Digital Songs respectively. [6] The early success subsequently hailed them as the New Artist of the Year at several awards ceremonies, including Golden Disc Awards and Seoul Music Awards.[7][8]

The group's Japanese debut a single, "Suki to Iwasetai", was released on February 6, 2019 under UMG's EMI Records label. Peaking at number 2 on Oricon Singles Chart and with over 250,000 unit sales, the single was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).[9] Later that year, Kim starred in the film The Fault Is Not Yours[10][11][12] where she also released a soundtrack song "Christmas".

In June 2020, Kim joined Kang Chan-hee and Stray Kids' Hyunjin as co-hosts of the South Korean music program Show! Music Core [13][14]
