Lance Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador

Lance Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador is a local service district and designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Bell Island was a village in Lance Cove that was located south of Wabana, Bell Island. The Way Office was established in 1888 and the first Way Master was William Clements.

The Harbour Main section contained two families in 1864.

The Trinity section was home to nine families. The Way Office was established in 1886 and the first Way Master was Jesse Buckler. The first Post Master in 1891 was A. John Brown.

Lance Cove, Bell Island is in Newfoundland within Subdivision R of Division No. 1.[1]

Demographics[]

As a designated place in the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Lance Cove, Bell Island recorded a population of 322 living in 165 of its 188 total private dwellings, a change of -6.4% from its 2011 population of 344. With a land area of 14.69 km2 (5.67 sq mi), it had a population density of 21.9/km2 (56.8/sq mi) in 2016.[2]

Government[]

Lance Cove, Bell Island is a local service district (LSD)[3] that is governed by a committee responsible for the provision of certain services to the community.[4] The chair of the LSD committee is Sharon Hammond.[3]
