This is a list of Graham mountains in Scotland by height. Grahams are defined as Scottish mountains between 2,000–2,500 feet (609.6–762.0 m) in height, the general requirement to be called a "mountain" in the British Isles, and with a minimum prominence or drop, of 150 metres (492.1 ft); a mix of imperial and metric thresholds.[1][2]
Scottish mountains within this height range were called "Elsies" (short for Lesser Corbetts, being "LCs").[2] in 1992 this list from noted British Isles cartographer Alan Dawson was published in his book The Relative Hills of Britain. In November 1992, Fiona Torbet (née Graham) published her own list which didn't include the Southern Uplands and had a few inaccuracies. Dawson and Graham met to discuss and Fiona Graham agreed to merge and use Dawson's list provided they could still be known as the Grahams.[3][4][5] The list of Grahams was subsequently also published by the Scottish Mountaineering Club ("SMC") in the 1997 edition of the Munro's Tables.[2] By definition, all Grahams, given their prominence, are also Marilyns.[1] Alan Dawson owns and maintains the official lists of Grahams. The SMC uses the list, with permission, and used the list as it was in the 1997 Munros Tables in their subsequent book The Grahams and Donald's though the list they use there is not the official list as more accurate surveying of summits and cols has resulted in changes since 1997. [2]
As of October 2018 there were 219 Grahams identified in Scotland, 5 less than the original 1992 list of 224 Grahams.[a][1] Of these, 7 of the 219 Grahams have a prominence that exceeds the P600 threshold of 600 metres (1,969 ft), which would class them as "Majors".[7] The highest Graham, Beinn Talaidh on the Isle of Mull, is 762 metres (2,500 ft) and ranks as the 1285th highest mountain in the British Isles, on the Simms classification.[7] The Graham with the greatest prominence is Sgurr na Coinnich at 714 metres (2,343 ft), which ranks it as the 54th most prominent mountain in the British Isles.[7]
Climbers who climb all of the Grahams are called Grahamists, and while there is debate over the first, it likely to be Colin Dodgson in July 1984, followed by Andrew Dempster in June 1997;[4] a list of Grahamists is maintained, which as of October 2018, totalled 170.[6][8]
Graham mountains by height[]
This list is from the Database of British and Irish Hills ("DoBIH") in October 2018, and are peaks the DoBIH marks as being Grahams ("G").[b][11] The SMC and Dawson updates the list of Grahams from time to time, and the DoBIH also updates their measurements as more surveys are recorded, so these tables should not be amended or updated unless the entire DoBIH data is re-downloaded again.

Notes[]
- ^ Jump up to: a b Since 1992, 6 Grahams were removed and one Graham was added. According to Alan Dawson's website, Creag na h-Eararuidh near Glen Artney became a new Graham in 2014, replacing Beinn Dearg, which is 1.7m lower. Ben Aslak, Corwharn and Ladylea Hill have all been accurately surveyed and found to be only 609m high, so are no longer Grahams. Stob na Boine Druim-fhinn has a drop of only 149.4m so is no longer a Marilyn or a Graham. Cnoc Coinnich is 763.5m and is therefore too high to be a Graham.[6]

The list of all distinct peaks in Scotland which are 2000ft (609.6m) or more and less than 2500ft (762m) with a drop of at least 150m between each peak and any higher land. Like the Corbetts, this list is well defined and requires only the aforementioned rules and sufficiently detailed topographic data to reproduce the list of hills in the set. Scottish hills within this height range were previously called Elsies (short for Lesser Corbetts - LCs). In 1992 Fiona Torbet (née Graham) published her own, similar, list of these hills. The original list of Elsies, and the new list were rationalised and combined by Fiona Torbet and Alan Dawson and this set of hills became known as the Grahams. The list of Grahams is now maintained by Alan Dawson and can be found on The Relative Hills of Britain website. There are 219 Grahams, spread over the whole of Scotland - even seven of the Scottish Islands contain Graham.
