Box office is the revenue produced by a film while in theaters. All records here are for the United States and Canada together, a market known as the North American box office and the domestic box office ,[1] [2] [3] and where gross is defined in US dollars .
Due to different ways of measuring film revenue, there are various record holders, depending on the time period over which the revenue was measured, and whether the revenue is adjusted for inflation.

S The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a shared universe . It includes films with The Avengers which also counts as a franchise by itself.
* Box Office Mojo says there are 11 Wizarding World films because they count an IMAX Marathon of the eight Harry Potter films as a ninth film. This is not done here.
* Using the chart from WP, List of Disney live-action remakes of animated films#Box office performance , since BOM uses "Oz the Great and Powerful", which was never a Disney animated film, & "Pete's Dragon", a remake of a live action/animation hybrid film.
