List of demolished buildings and structures in New York City

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 486 ft (148 m) tall neo-Romanesque City Investing Building is one of many buildings that can no longer be seen in New York today. It was built between 1906 and 1908 and was demolished in 1968.

This is a list of demolished buildings and structures in New York City. Over time, countless buildings have been built in what is now New York City. Some of them still stand today and can be viewed - however, many buildings have since been demolished. The reason for the demolition was often the lack of space, many times the condition of the building was no longer adequate, but it also happened that its style was already ostentatious and outdated. Another aspect is that because the cost of renovating a building is very high, there was an easier way to demolish it than to renovate it. However, today's opinion may not be in line with the views prevalent at the time of its demolition, and many consider it detrimental to demolish buildings that were often built with high artistic demands at the time.

There may not be an accurate record of all the demolished buildings, so this list is also presumably fragmentary.
