Although there are no definitive box office figures for Nepalese cinema, the following list of highest-grossing films in Nepal is based on figures provided by producers, distributors and some news portals, for prominent films since 2070 BS (2013 CE).
The Nepalese film industry is relatively young. Many early films were produced by the Royal Nepal Film Corporation (est. 1971) for the government, which was more concerned with the country's cultural heritage than commercial success. These gradually built a film industry infrastructure and enabled private productions. Kusume Rumal (1985) held the box-office record until this was surpassed in 2001 by the musical Darpan Chaya (these films would contend for the current box office record if figures were adjusted for inflation). New records were set in 2012 with the critically acclaimed crime thriller Loot and erotic thriller Chapali Height. These were broken by action-thriller Kohinoor (2014), which is considered Nepal's first blockbuster for exceeding रू 10 crore (100 million Nepalese rupees) worldwide,[1] and domestically outperforming Indian films. This record was then broken by the comedies Chhakka Panja (2014) and Chhakka Panja 3 (2018), installments of a trilogy which currently holds the top three positions with a combined worldwide gross of रू 48.5 crore (485 million Nepalese rupees).
The highest-grossing film in Nepal is the Indian film Baahubali 2: The Conclusion with gross of रू 20 crore (200 million Nepalese rupees).
The highest-grossing Nepalese film in Nepal is Chhakka Panja 3 with gross of रू 18 crore (180 million Nepalese rupees). The best-performing Nepalese film overseas is The Black Hen (Nepalese: Kalo Pothi) with रू 4.5 crore (45 million Nepalese rupees).
The highest-grossing Hollywood film in Nepal is Spider-Man: No Way Home with estimated box office collection of रू 7 crore (70 million Nepalese rupees).
The biggest domestic opening day by a Nepalese movie is रू 1.62 crore (16.2 million Nepalese rupees) by Chhakka Panja 2.
The biggest single-day box office receipts in Nepal is रू 2.5 crore (25 million Nepalese rupees) for the Indian film Sooryavanshi.
Pushpa: The Rise is the only film to have many number of shows despite the release of new films including Spider-Man: No Way Home in theatres, this movie would have exceeded 50 days easily if there was no theatres ban due to in going situation.
