List of most-visited art museums
This article lists the most-visited art museums in the world in 2020. The primary source is The Art Newspaper annual survey of the number of visitors to major art museums in 2020, published 30 March 2021. Figures for French museums in 2021 come from The Art Newspaper on January 5, 2022.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the museums listed were closed during the year for long periods of time. For example, the Louvre, the top museum on the list, was closed for 150 days in 2020, and Louvre attendance for 2020 dropped by 72 percent from 2019. Overall, attendance at the top one hundred art museums dropped by 77 percent in 2020.[1]
Museums in the United States and Western Europe usually measure attendance for the calendar year from January through December, while many museums in East Asia and Britain measure attendance for the fiscal year, from April through March.
