Malir Expressway

Malir Expressway is currently a 39 km proposed expressway starting from KPT Interchange, cross through Qayyumabad and conclude at the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway near Kathore, along the Malir River.[1]

Typical cross-section[]

It will be a four-lane carriageway.[2]

Structures[]

The project includes three flyovers and eight underpasses.[3]

DBFOT[]

Design, Built, Finance, Operate & Maintain and Transfer (DBFOT) arrangement with a concession period of 28 years[4]

Southern alternative route[]

The expressway would serve as the Southern alternative route for carrying traffic of the port and industrial areas to main highways.[5]

  • Korangi – Shah Faisal Colony Road
  • Shahrah-e-Faisal (N-5) near Quaidabad
  • Between 20–24 km
  • Between 25–30 km
  • Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-9)

Approval[]

It has recently been approved and construction is expected to begin in the second week of November, 2020.[7]
