Mehndi Hai Rachne Waali is an Indian television drama series that premiered on 15 February 2021 on StarPlus.[1] The series is based on Star Maa's Telugu series Gorintaku.[2] Produced by SOL Productions and Sandiip Films, it stars Shivangi Khedkar and Sai Ketan Rao.[3]

Plot

Mehandi hai rachne waali is a story of how two completely different individuals come together to love each other. Pallavi Deshmukh is a widow, but she's much more than that. She lives with her in laws and is very close to them, despite the passing away of her husband on her wedding night. She runs the family saree shop. Raghav Rao is a business magnate and owns Jayanti Jewels. He is a loner and is all for money. One day, these polar opposites meet. They both hate each other with all their heart, but they get married due to responsibilities and oaths. Soon, things begin falling into place and the duo fall-in-love. However, their happiness is all jinxed when it is revealed that her ex-husband is actually alive and is back to ruin the newly weds’ lives.

Production

Preparation

Shivangi Khedkar was cast as Pallavi preparing for which she said, "My character is of a Maharashtrian girl, Pallavi. Since our whole team is Marathi, everyone helps me in speaking words in their language. Even I am working hard on myself".[5]

Filming

Based on the backdrop of Hyderabad, the series is mainly filmed at sets in Kolhapur in Maharashtra while some initial sequences were shot in Hyderabad in early February 2021.[6][7]

On 13 April 2021, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray announced a sudden curfew due to increased COVID-19 cases, while the production halted from 14 April 2021. Soon, the team of the series decided to move their shooting location to Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad until the next hearing.[8] Hence, the production location was shifted temporarily.[9]

Release

The first promo of the series was released on 26 January 2021 featuring the leads Shivangi Khedkar and Sai Ketan Rao.[10]

Reception

Ratings

In UK, the series launched with 74.6 thousand viewers being the third most watched Indian television series.[11] On 30 March 2021, it was the most watched series with the viewership of 38.2 thousand .[12] On week ending 12 April 2021, it was the second most watched series with 98.3 thousand viewers.[13] The viewership further increased to 77 thousand on 17 April 2021, being the most watched series.[14] The viewership increased on 25 May 2021 with 89.1 thousand viewers.[15]The viewership then increased more on week ending Sunday 13 June 2021 with 92,400 thousand viewers, it was the second most watched series. [16]
