Michael Claver Jr. (Chinese: 施英賢; born February 13, 2002), known professionally as Mikki Claver is a Filipino-Chinese rapper, singer-songwriter and a member of the Filipino boy group BGYO.[2] Claver has co-written several tracks released by BGYO: "The Light" (2021),[3] "Runnin'" (2021)[A][4] and "Sabay" (2021).[5]
Early life[]
Michael Claver Jr. was born on the 13th of February 2002, in Manila, Philippines. Prior to his BGYO journey, Claver was a usual teenage boy, a student in a Chinese school, inspired by his brother's DJ career and passion for music[6] which leads him to compose songs and make rap beats with zero experience in performing.[7][8]
Career[]
2018–Present: Star Hunt Academy and debut with BGYO[]
Claver was the last member introduced as trainee of the Star Hunt Academy program, scouted as a rapper,[6] in 2018 and became part of "SHA Boys", despite of his hesitations at first.[9][7] He and his four co-members were trained for two years under Filipino and South Korean mentors from MU Doctor Academy;[10] vocal coach Kitchy Molina; and dance coach Mickey Perz.[11] They were officially announced in the pre-show of PBB Otso Big Night as Star Hunt trainees on 3 August 2019[12] and debuted as a member of BGYO on 29 January 2021.[13]
Artistry[]
Claver have cited being highly influenced by his brother in making rap beats and lyrics while taking inspirations to Kanye West, J. Cole and Travis Scott.[2] He has also mentioned BTS, Justin Bieber and Kendrick Lamar as musical inspirations.[14][7]
Impact and influence[]
Anna Fregillana of Parcinq magazine expressed in an article saying "I am amazed by his passion and talent... he's breaking the deal when Mikki opens up his love for various artists and music itself".[2]
Personal life[]
Claver was a horror movie enthusiast.[2] He loves collecting black oversized shirts, reading manga and into anime.[9] He became part of the Star Magic All-Star Games; for basketball.[15]
