The minister of state for Brexit opportunities and government efficiency is a ministerial office in the Cabinet Office in the Government of the United Kingdom.[1] This position was created (as "Minister for Efficiency and Transformation") by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in February 2020 as a renaming of Minister of State for the Treasury with new responsibilities. It was a joint office with HM Treasury and the Cabinet Office from 2020 to 2022. After Jacob Rees-Mogg was appointed in February 2022, the role was made a full member of the Cabinet; he is based solely at the Cabinet Office.
Responsibilities[]
Current responsibilities include:[2]
- supporting the chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Chief Secretary to the Treasury
- public value and planning and performance
- supporting procurement and other government functional activity relating to COVID-19.
The responsibilities under Lord Agnew were:[2]
- supporting the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and the Chief Secretary to the Treasury to deliver cross-government and public sector reform and efficiency, including public value and planning and performance
- supporting the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster with oversight of the corporate functions and operation of the spending controls, including in relation to COVID-19
- HMT Lords Spokesperson
The House of Lords states the responsibility of Treasury spokesperson in the House of Lords is yet to be filled.[3]
