New Moomin (新ムーミン, Shin Mūmin) is the second anime television series adaptation of the Moomin book series by the Finnish illustrator and writer Tove Jansson.[1] It is a remake of the 1969-1970 Moomin series, which was loosely based on the books. It was produced in 1972 by Mushi Production and broadcast on Fuji TV.[1][2]

Production[]

The series was produced as a remake after the 1969-70 series was cancelled by Jansson's claim as it was radically different from how she wanted the series to be. Like 1969 series, it was never broadcast outside Japan except Taiwan, which aired in TTV as 1969 series does.[1] [3]

Unlike its predecessor, the series was based more closely on the books.[1][4]
