Oleksandr Petrovich Dovbiy (Russian: Довбий Александр Петрович; born September 28, 1953 in Kharkiv, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukrainian SSR) is a former [1] football forward, master of sports of the USSR (1980).

Football Biography[]

Playing career[]

The Lokomotiv was the first professional team Alexander Dovbiy has played for. In 1974—1975 played for the FC Frunzenets team based in Sumy. Then he returned to Kharkov.

In 1976 Alexander was called up for the military service where he played for the army football club in B league FC CSKA Kyiv (based in Kiev). In 1977, he scored 18 goals and became one of top scorers in the season. Alexander's club mate, Nikolay Pinchuck scored 20 goals in that season.

After the military service, Alexander spent a season[1] in FC Chornomorets Odesa. Then Alexander moved to FC Metalist Kharkiv in 1979 and spent 3 seasons there. In 1981, he became the winner of the A league and paved the way to the premier league. Alexander finished his career in FC Frunzenets.

Teams managed[]

After completion the club career, Alexander worked as a faculty instructor at the Kharkov branch of the Kiev State University of Physical Culture and Kharkov State College of Physical Culture No.1.

In 1990 — 1991 Alexander worked as a coacher in FC Metalist Kharkiv. In 1993/1994[citation needed] season, Alexander was named head coacher of FC Metalist Kharkiv. Later, Alexander held the position of a football manager in FC Himic Zhytomyr. In 1993/1994 season, Alexander was also a head coacher in FC Neftyanik from Akhtyrka. Later he was the head coacher in FC Zirka Kirovograd and Vorskla. While managing[citation needed] FC Vorskla, Alexander took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. In 1999, he moved to Kharkov where he assisted Mikhail Fomenko in coaching FC Metalist Kharkiv.

In 2002, Alexander Dovbiy has accepted the invitation from Leonid Tkachenko, who was the caretaker manager of the premier league FC Anzhi Makhachkala, to join the coaching team.

In 2003, Alexander Dovbiy held in the FC Sokol Saratov, and then returned to Ukraine where he was a coach of FC Zarya in Lugansk was. He helped the club to stay in the A league. In 2005, Alexander Dovbiy returned to Kharkov, where he was a football manager in FC Kharkov-2 and FC Hazovyk-KhGV Kharkiv that play in the B league. In 2009, he worked in the Moldovan club FC Zaria Bălți, but in June left the coaching position.

From 2009 to 2011 Alexander Dovbiy worked in Vietnam, where he was the head coach and one of the founders of the national football academy PVF.[2]

Since October 2011, Dovbiy holds the position of sporting director of FC "Olympia" (Balti).
