Persico Marine, is a privately held yacht design and boat builder based in Nembro, Lombardy, and in Marina di Carrara, Tuscany, Italy. Established in 1990, the company builds custom sailing yachts for both racing teams and individual customers. Persico Marine is a part of the Persico Group, an Italian multinational engaged in the automotive, industrial, marine and aerospace industries.

Persico Marine has worked on racing yachts for the America's Cup, the Volvo Ocean Race and the Maxi 72 class, amongst others.[1]

With financial backing from Prada and Pirelli Persico Marine constructed two carbon fiber AC75 monohulls for team Luna Rossa used at the 2021 America's Cup held in Auckland, Zealand. Persico Marine was also the official supplier of identical canting foil arms to all competing America's Cup teams.[2]

PERSICO Marine, part of Persico Group, was set up in 1990.

The company builds custom sailing yachts for the world's most renowned racing teams and for individual customers.

The group has worked on racing yachts for the America's Cup, the Volvo Ocean Race and the Maxi 72 class, amongst many others.[3]

History [3][]

[4] 1990 - CNC 5-axis milling

Persico introduced the first computer numerical control (CNC) 5-axis milling machine in Italy, which was also among the first in Europe.

Shortly after the installation of Persico's CNC 5-axis milling machine, Mr. Caglieris, an engineer working for Raul Gardini, paid a visit to the site to take a look at the machine.

Mr. Gardini was the head of the Il Moro Challenge syndicate, which was about to build the five Il Moro di Venezia boats for the 28th America's Cup.

Other members of the team were the skipper, Paul Cayard, and the designer, Germán Frers.

Persico accepted to become the first to mill the new-generation International America's Cup Class (IACC) shells and keels – components.

2002 - Il Moro di Venezia. 1992 America's Cup

Persico constructed the moulds for the hull, deck and helm of the RC44, designed by Russell Coutts.

2004 - Luna Rossa Challenge. 2007 America's Cup

Persico developed most of the construction equipment, including four-part moulds, and handled the building of the two carbon-fibre Luna Rossa boats (ITA86 and ITA94) for the 32nd America's Cup.

In addition, it provided support to the sailing team on all technical and manufacturing matters.

2010 - Partnering with Future Fibres

Persico Marine and Future Fibres Rigging Systems, based in Valencia, Spain, teamed up to share expertise and to produce moulds, boats, rigging and carbon masts for the yacht market.

- Abu Dhabi's Azzam. 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race

The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority selected Persico to build a VO70 racing yacht for the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team that participated in the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race.

The boat, called Azzam and created together with the American design firm, Farr Yacht Design – triumphed in the 2011 Fastnet Race and then went on to compete in the Volvo Race.

2011 - Artemis Racing and Luna Rossa Challenge 2013 America's Cup

Persico provided key catamaran components for these two competitors in the 34th America's Cup.

It built the hull and foils for the Luna Rossa AC72 and manufactured the plugs and infused carbon moulds for the Artemis AC72 wingsails.

The 40-metre wings were moulded in Valencia, Spain, at the facility of its partner, Future Fibres.

2012 - Volvo One Design. 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race

Persico was chosen to manufacture the moulds, hulls, structural bulkheads, keel boxes and other key parts for the new 65-foot class of monohulls for the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race. Persico was part of a consortium of shipbuilders that produced seven One Design boats to a design by Farr Yacht Design.

2014 - A new 60-ft One Design

Persico started work on a new Frers 60-ft day sailer.

- Mini maxis: Proteus and Momo

Persico expanded its racing-yacht building service with two new projects, the 72-foot sister ship mini maxis Proteus (formerly Rán V) and Momo.

2015 - Salvaging a competitor: Team Vestas Wind. 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race

Persico repaired the Vestas Wind after the boat ran aground on the Cargados Carajos Shoals, in the Indian Ocean, during the Volvo Ocean Race.

The boat was able to rejoin the race in Lisbon for the last few legs.

- TP52s: Rán and Gladiator

Persico was commissioned to build both the Rán[5] and Gladiator[6] TP52s for the 2015 season.

2016 - IMOCA 60 No Way Back. Vendée Globe 2016-17

Persico built the 60-ft foiler No Way Back[7] (formerly Vento di Sardegna, skippered by Andrea Mura) for the around-the-world solo Vendée Globe 2016–17.

Designed by Guillaume Verdier, the monohull enabled skipper Pieter Heerema[8] to take on racing's challenge.

2017 - Land Rover BAR 2017 America's Cup

Persico built the wings, platform and foils for the Land Rover BAR[9] catamarans for the 35th America's Cup in Bermuda.

- Team AkzoNobel. 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race

Persico Marine built the Team AkzoNobel Volvo Ocean 65 yacht, as well as rudders for other VO65s, for the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race.

In addition, the company provided staff for assistance at stopovers.

2018 - Vestas 11th Hour Racing. 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race

Persico helped repair the Vestas 11th Hour Racing yacht following a collision with a fishing boat off Hong Kong during the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race.

Persico constructed a replacement bow section and shipped it to Auckland for installation.

- Luna Rossa, Phoenix and Provezza

Persico delivered three TP52s: Luna Rossa and Phoenix,[10] designed by Botin Partners, and Provezza, designed by Judel/Vrolijk.

2021 - 2021 America's Cup

Persico built Luna Rossa Challenge's two 75-ft boats for the 2021 America's Cup in Auckland.[11]

Designed by Persico Marine and featuring input from Felci Design. This was the first boat built by Persico Marine with an Italian designer.

The construction and finishing project manager was James Stagg, a sailor who was part of the British team in the 2013 America's Cup and led the shore team of Ben Ainslie Racing in the 2017 America's Cup.

1992 - San Diego - Il Moro di Venezia

Persico was the first to mill the new-generation International America's Cup Class (IACC) shells and keels.

2021 - Auckland - Luna Rossa Challenge

Persico built Luna Rossa Challenge's two 75-ft. boats for the America's Cup in Auckland.

America’s Cup official arm supplier Persico Marine was the Official Supplier of the famous foil arms [9] for the 2021 America's Cup in Auckland. These parts have been supplied to all the teams and were absolutely identical in all respects.

- Volvo Ocean Race

2011-2012 - Azzam - Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing

Persico Marine built the VO70 racing yacht for the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team that participated in the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race.

- Vendée Globe

2016-2017 - NO WAY BACK

No Way Back, a brand new VPLP-Verdier foiler.

No Way Back is the former Vento di Sardegna, a VPLP-Verdier designed boat from the latest generation, built originally for the Italian skipper Andrea Mura, before his sponsors were forced to withdraw due to the economic crisis in Italy.

Consequently, she was a new foiler. Built at the Persico Marine yard in Italy and launched August 2015, this 60-foot boat was designed and built to race for the Vendée Globe.

No Way Back, skippered by Pieter Heerema, crossed the finish line after 116 days 9 hrs, 24 mins and 12 secs at 21:26:12 UTC on 02/03/2017.
