Rodney Graham "Rod" Sims AO is an Australian economist and public servant. He has been the chairman of the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission since August 2011.

Career[]

Sims previously worked as a development economist in Papua New Guinea as well as for the Commonwealth Secretariat. He was also formerly a Deputy Secretary in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and in the Department of Transport.[1] He also held the position of Chief Economics Adviser to Prime Minister Bob Hawke.[2] Sims has previously held roles with the InfraCo Asia Development (IAD) as a founding Non-Executive Director and the Chairman a position in held from May 2010 until June 2011 when he resigned to take up the chairmanship of the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission.[3][4] Sims has also held a directorship at Port Jackson Partners. He will retire as ACCC chairman in March 2022.[5]

Education[]

Sims graduated with first class honours degree in Commerce from the University of Melbourne and earned a Master of Economics from the Australian National University in Canberra.[6]

Honours[]

In 2022, Sims was appointed as Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2022 Australia Day Honours for distinguished service to public administration in economic policy and regulatory roles.[7]
