Rolde (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈrɔldə] (listen)) is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. Located in the municipality of Aa en Hunze, it lies about 6 km (3.7 mi) east of Assen. In 2020, Rolde had a population of 3,770.
History[]
Rolde was a separate municipality until 1998, when it became a part of the newly-established municipality of Aa en Hunze.[1]
In 2001, the town of Rolde had 3,558 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town, which was 1.4 km² (0.5 sq mi), contained 1,585 residences.[2] The statistical area of Rolde, which also includes the surrounding countryside, had a population of around 4,160 as of 2005.[3]
Although facilities are limited, Rolde possesses a ten-pin bowling alley. There are also two hunebeds on a site east of the church. The windmill has been restored to working order.
