Salah Zulfikar filmography

Salah Zulfikar (1926-1993) was an Egyptian actor and film producer,[1] who appeared in over 130 feature films, several short films, stage, TV series and Radio series. Zulfikar‘s film debut was in 1956 in a leading role becoming one of the most dominant leading men in Egyptian cinema. He starred in action, crime, war, drama and romantic comedies. [2]

Salah Zulfikar’s film debut was in Wakeful Eyes (Uyoon Sahranah) (1956) alongside Shadia, He played the role of Ahmed the playboy in Mahmoud Zulfikar’s Forbidden Women (Nesaa Moharramat) (1959) alongside Huda Sultan, and Ezz El-Dine Zulficar’s Among the Ruins (Bain Al Atlal) alongside Faten Hamama and Emad Hamdy in 1959. The following year, Zulfikar starred in Niazi Mostafa’s Earning (Loqmat Al-Aish) (1960), his next role was in A Secret of a Woman (Serr Imra’a) of Atef Salem alongside Huda Sultan and Emad Hamdy. He starred in I accuse (Eni Attahem) of Hassan El-Imam, a thriller, alongside Zubaida Tharwat playing the role of Salah the journalist. He starred in Holy Bond (Al Rabat Al Moqaddas) (1960) of Mahmoud Zulfikar earning him critical recognition from Cairo critics. In 1961, Zulfikar starred in Path of Heroes (Tareeq Al Abtal) alongside Hind Rostom and Shoukry Sarhan. His next role was in the romance; Wahida (Wahida) (1961) alongside Mariam Fakhr Eddine. [3][4]

The following years, Salah Zulfikar achieved success all over the Middle East through multiple film genres including the horror box office hit; The Cursed Palace (Al Qasr Al Mal’oun) (1962). His following role was Salem in Ahmed Diaa Eddine’s All my Sons (Kolohom Awladi) (1962). He starred in A Husband on Holiday (Zawg fe Agaza) (1964) achieving box office success.[5] He starred as a gold thief in Three Thieves (3 Losoos) (1966). He appeared in Three Women (Thalath Nesaa) (1968) alongside leading actresses Sabah, Huda Sultan and Mervat Amin. His next role was Yehia in Youssef Chahine’s The Nile and the Life (Al Nil wal Hayah) (1968). [6] Zulfikar starred in the light comedy; Women’s Market (Souq Al Harim) in 1969 and Virgo (Borg El Azraa) in (1970), a box office hit co-starred by Nahed Sherif and Adel Emam. His next role was in the thriller; Eye of Life (A’in El-Hayah) (1970) achieving good numbers in the box office. He starred in Mahmoud Zulfikar’s My Husband’s Wife (Imra’at Zawgy) (1970) co-starring Naglaa Fathi and Nelly. In the next year, Zulfikar starred in Helmy Rafla’s A Touch of Tenderness (Lamset Hanan) (1971), a romance alongside Shadia. Next film was in Confessions of A Woman (E’terafat Imra’a) (1971) alongside Nadia Lutfi and Kamal El-Shennawi.[7] [8]

Zulfikar played diversified roles including Mohsen in A Call for Life (Da’awa Lel Hayah) (1972) co-starring Mervat Amin and Mahmoud El-Meliguy. He starred in Incomplete Crime (Gareema Lam Taktamel) (1972) a crime thriller co-starred by Isaad Younis. The following year, Zulfikar starred in the Syrian romance; Memory of A Night of Love (Thekra Lailat Hub) (1973) alongside leading actresses Nelly, Muna Wassef, Nabila Ebeid and Hala Shawkat. He appeared in a guest appearance in Enemy Brothers (Al-Oukhwa Al-A’daa) (1974) playing the role of the public prosecutor. Zulfikar appeared in the political film Karnak (Al-Karnak) (1975) of Ali Badrakhan in a special appearance alongside Soad Hosny, playing the role of the rebellious member of parliament Shoukry, earning him critical recognition.

Zulfikar appeared in a guest appearance in A World of Children (Alam Eyal Eyal) (1976). Passing a year, he starred in the thriller, Traveller Without A Road (Mosafer bila Tareeq) (1978) a box office hit alongside Mahmoud Yassin and Magda El Khatib. His next role was Abdel Ghaffar Lotfy in Moment of Weakness (Lahzet Da’af) (1981), and it was a complex character earning him critical recognition co-starred by Hussein Fahmy and Nelly. Zulfikar starred as a famous writer in Anis Mansour’s novel adaptation Sorry for Bothering (Asef lel Ezaag) in (1986). He played Fadel Abu Al-Fadl; the wealthy man who spent almost everything he owned to build a huge villa and own a sports car in The Barefoot Millionaire (El Millioneira El Hafya) (1987). The following year, Zulfikar starred in Love Also Dies (Al-Hubb Aydan Yamoot) (1988), a romance co-starred by Safia El Emari and Ezzat El Alaili. He starred in Unfortunately Woman (Imra’a Lel Asaf) (1988), alongside Yousra. In the next year, Zulfikar starred in the comedy; Mr. Aliwa’s Apartment (Sha’et El Ostaz Aliwa) (1989). In 1990, he starred in Mr. Shalash's Family, the TV miniseries and it was a success. Zulfikar appeared in a cameo appearance as himself in Alexandria Again and Forever (Iskandereya kaman wa kaman) (1990) of Youssef Chahine. Zulfikar's films in his later years and Henry Barakat‘s Wicked Game (Lou’bat El Ashrar) (1991), a box office hit co-starred by Athar El-Hakim, and Henry Barakat’s The Accused (El Mottahama) (1992), Minister in Plaster (Wazeer Fel Gebs) (1993) and his next role was in Five-Star Thieves (Losoos Khamas Nogoom) of Ashraf Fahmy and Nader Galal’s The Terrorist (Al Irhabi) which were released in 1994.

Zulfikar participated in over 250 artistic projects either cinematic, TV, Radio or Stage. He was a film producer and film, stage, TV and radio actor.[9]

Salah Zulfikar produced five films and starred in ten, two of which as an actor and a producer with a total of thirteen films listed in the greatest 100 films in the centenary of Egyptian cinema. Zulfikar played all kind of roles in an impressive career spanning over thirty seven years.[10]
