Skateboarding made its debut appearance at the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.[1] It has also been provisionally approved by the IOC for inclusion at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.[2]

World Skate currently sanctions Olympic skateboarding.[citation needed]

Bid for inclusion[]

In September 2015, skateboarding was included in a shortlist along with baseball, softball, karate, surfing, and sport climbing to be considered for inclusion in the 2020 Summer Olympics;[3] and in June 2016, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that they would support the proposal to include all of the shortlisted sports in the 2020 Games.[4] Finally, on August 3, 2016, all five sports (counting baseball and softball together as one sport) were approved for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic program.[1]
