The State of the World’s Cash 2020 is a publication by CALP Network that reports on the use of cash and voucher assistance in humanitarian aid.[1][2][3][4]

It was written by Gabrielle Smith, R. McCormack, Alex Jacobs, Arushi Chopra, Aarsh Vir Gupta, and Thomas Abell.[5]

Background[]

The report is a follow up to CALP's earlier publication The State of the World’s Cash 2018.[1][6]

Synopsis[]

The report includes recommendations for humanitarian practitioners.[1] It documents how use of cash and voucher assistance (CVA) in humanitarian aid has double from US$2.8 billion in 2016, to $5.6 billion in 2019,[1][7] representing 17.9% of spending on humanitarian assistance.[2]

It reports on the importance of CVA with regards to saving lives and creating jobs.[1]

Chapter 8 focusses on how humanitarian agencies can work closer with national governments.[1]

The report documents ambiguity around coordination of CVA activities and the impact that has on delivery of humanitarian aid and effectiveness of the program.[8]
