Ubaporanga Airport (ICAO: SNCT) is an airport located in Ubaporanga, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It serves the municipality of Caratinga, located in the Vale do Aço metropolitan area; however, its operations are restricted to daytime and with small aircraft.[2][3]

Its runway is asphalt and is 1,080 meters long. It is located near BR-116, in the village of Córrego das Palmeiras.[4][5]

Accidents and incidents[]

  • On 5 November 2021, a Beechcraft King Air PT-ONJ crashed 4 km (2.5 mi) from the airport, in a waterfall in the municipality of Piedade de Caratinga, as it is on final approach. The crash killed all the occupants, being two crew members and three passengers, among them was singer Marília Mendonça. The aircraft came from Goiânia International Airport, which was to transport the artist to a concert she was to perform in Caratinga on the same date.[6] Before hitting the ground, the aircraft hit high-voltage tower cables, which, according to pilot reports, had hindered landings in previous months.[7]
