University of Alberta Protective Services (formerly known as Campus Security Services[3]) is the Peace Officer service for the University of Alberta. As a level 1 community peace officer agency under the Alberta Peace Officer Act, Protective Services officers are sworn in as peace officers. They are authorized to enforce provincial regulations, acts and university bylaws listed in their provincial appointment.

According to section 7(1)(a) of the Alberta Peace Officer Act, officers only have the powers and protection of a peace officer while carrying out duties related to the University of Alberta. They carry batons and pepper spray but are not allowed to carry firearms.
