Vega flight VV10 was the launch of the OPTSAT-3000 & Venµs satellites by the 10th Vega launcher.[1]

Payload[]

The payload, OPTSAT-3000 and Venµs, and their adapters and dispensers, were approximately 982 kilograms (2,165 lb) in total mass.[2]

OPTSAT-3000 is a high-resolution electro-optical imagery intelligence satellite for the Italian Ministry of Defence. It has a launch mass of 368 kilograms (811 lb) and a design lifetime of 7 years. OPTSAT-3000 was in the upper position and the first to be deployed 42 minutes and 49 seconds after launch into its target sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 450 km (semi-major axis of 6825 km) and mean local time of the descending node equal to 10:30. It was the 62nd Earth observation satellite launched by Arianespace.[3]

Venµs, with a launch mass of 264 kilograms (582 lb) and a design lifetime of 4.5 years, was in the lower position. It was injected 1 hour 37 minutes and 17 seconds after launch into its target sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 720 km (semi-major axis of 7098 km) and mean local time of the descending node also equal to 10:30. It was the 63rd Earth observation satellite launched by Arianespace.[3]

The launch occurred from the ELV launch pad at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana, on 2 August 2017 at 01:58:33 UTC (1 August 2017 at 22:58:33 local time). It was the 291st Arianespace mission (the 8th in 2017), and the 10th successful Vega launch (the 2nd in 2017).[2]
