Virgin River is an American romantic drama streaming television series, produced by Reel World Management, based on the Virgin River novels by Robyn Carr. The first season premiered on Netflix on December 6, 2019.[1] In December 2019, the series was renewed for a 10-episode second season which was released on November 27, 2020.[2][3] In December 2020, the series was renewed for a 10-episode third season, which premiered on July 9, 2021.[4][5]

Premise[]

Virgin River follows Melinda "Mel" Monroe, who answers an ad to work as a midwife and nurse practitioner in the remote Northern California town of Virgin River, thinking it will be the perfect place to start fresh and leave her painful memories behind. But she soon discovers that small-town living isn't quite as simple as she expected. She must learn to heal herself before she can truly make Virgin River her home.[6]

Los Angeles, California Nurse Practitioner Mel Monroe moves to remote town Virgin River to start a new job. She was hired for a one-year contract by Hope McCrea, the Mayor, to assist the town doctor, Vernon Mullins. She is provided lodging at the McCrea lodge. Mel meets Jack Sheridan, the Bartender and owner of the local bar Jack’s Bar which he runs with his friend Preacher. Next day Mel arrives at the Doc Mullins office. He is not pleased that she was hired without his approval. Jack's fellow Marine, Brady, comes back to town, Jack gives him a bar job. Mrs. McCrea goes to Doc Mullins and speaks with him regarding Mel, expressing that he needs help, whether he admits it or not. He agrees to give Mel 30 days probation. Mel treats a young pregnant lady at the practice suffering with Braxton Hicks. Later Jack finds a baby in a laundry basket on Doctor's front porch, he calls over Mel to come see what he has found.

Mel gives the baby girl a check-up at Doc's office. An indignant Doc Mullins arrives and takes charge. Connie, the General store owner, brings formula and bottles over, then starts ringing around to try and discover the mother. Doc Mullins is not keen on having Mel around. A frustrated Mel gives her notice to Hope. Jack offers to help with renovations on the lodge to try convince Mel to stay, meanwhile Hope pleads with Doc to give Mel a chance and let her do her job. Lilly, a local lady arrives with some old baby items. Mel tells Doc Mullins that she called the CPS to hand over the baby in the morning. An angry Doc tells Mel she is fired. Jack arrives at Charmaine's home, and they end up in bed together. Mel discovers Lilly in the back room and is shocked to see her breastfeeding the baby. Charmaine seems to think her relationship with Jack is deeper than he thinks it is.

Lilly admits that she is the mother; her husband died six months prior, and Mel thinks she's suffering postpartum depression. Mel lost her own baby and confides in Lilly that she considered suicide, it wasn't just grief from bereavement, but postpartum depression. The woman Jack was with comes to the bar and introduces herself to Mel as Jack's girlfriend, Charmaine. Doc drops off Hope at her house, she collapses while walking up the stairs, saying she can't breathe. Doc assures her that he will take care of her.

Hope had another heart attack episode recently. Jack comes over with a quiche for Hope. Mel meets him coldly. Jack is offhand about his relationship with Charmaine, implying that she thinks it's more serious than he does. Charmaine shows up to surprise Jack. Paige is mistaken for someone named Michelle by a passerby. This, with her lack of any bank accounts, insinuates something suspicious. She watches as the van drives away, with fear clearly on her face.

Jack and Mel are taken to the Pot camps so Mel can treat their boss for a bullet wound and later helps one of the residents, a young woman give birth. Doc tracks them down and retrieves them after Hope is alerted to their disappearance by a phone call from Mel’s sister. Hope is revealed to be treating Charmaine with distaste because her mother was a close friend that had an affair with Doc while they were still together but later gives her the benefit of the doubt. Mel later finds Jack in the middle of a night terror about his is time in the Marines.

Mel’s sister Joey visits Virgin River just as the town is preparing for the moonlight mingle, a dance where everyone switches partners between songs. Doc sets up a meeting with a lawyer so he and Hope can go through with their divorce but is frustrated by her absence at the appointment, however he soon realises how much his affair actually hurt her. Paige sees a man at the mingle and becomes erratic when she momentarily can’t find her son Christoper. Jack is truthful to Charmaine about where he stands in their relationship and later punches Brady after he gets drunk with Joey and makes insinuations about him and Mel.

Jack and Mel check on Ricky's diabetic grandmother, Lydie. When taking Lydie to the hospital, Mel flashes back to the circumstances surrounding her husband's death. As she has been avoiding his calls, Jack visits Charmaine at work, she suspects his lack of commitment to her has something to do with Mel's arrival. The two separate. Mel takes off her wedding ring, Jack notices the removed ring and, with difficulty, Mel tells Jack her husband is dead and that it's her fault.

Doc asks Mel to help with Charmaine's treatment as she may have a high-risk pregnancy. Mel talks to Hope about Charmaine staying at her place until she recovers. Brady comes to try and get his job back from Jack. Paige gets an unexpected visitor.

Mel and Doc disagree on how to treat Charmaine’s condition. Connie's troubled niece, Lizzie, comes to town. Hope offers to give Lizzie a tour of the town. Brady is given a job managing the logging company by the growers. Jack goes to the growers to confront them about the addict that attacked Mel. The growers turn Jack away and then send a lackey to find the addict who was previously a member. Hope shows Lizzie to the bar. Charmaine is pushing Mel's buttons. Preacher does his best to keep up the story of Paige's sudden absence. Muriel invites Doc to a concert and continues to try to capture his attention. Mel helps Charmaine so she doesn't have to end up in the hospital. Lizzie sneaks away from the bar with Hope's credit card. Jack reaches out to his police contact, Mike, who says they are closing in on the growers. Brady and Preacher run into each other and have an unpleasant exchange. Mel calls Joey to talk about Jack and her feelings for him. Jack and Charmaine find out they're having twins after Mel does their ultrasound.

At the annual Virgin River fundraiser/festival, Mel notices that many people are staring at her. Connie keeps Paige's bakery running. Emerald Lumber, represented by Brady (and the growers), buy out the farm owned by Lilly. After being pushed to tell the truth, Ricky confesses to Mel that everyone is staring at her because they are either Team Mel or Team Charmaine; gossip is going around that Mel slept with Jack just to steal him away from Charmaine. Lizzie has her eye on Brady after spotting him from across the festival. Connie accidentally finds a prescription for contraceptives in Lizzie's purse. Doc is upset that Hope won't run the egg race with him, since they've won 6 years in a row. Doc partners up with Muriel for the egg race but Mel and Jack win. Ricky is left without a partner when Lizzie ditches him. Jack confronts Brady about Calvin's operation and the lies he told Lilly. Mel confronts Charmaine about her spreading rumors. Mel's sister-in-law Stacey comes to visit, hoping to retrieve the heirloom engagement ring Mark gave to Mel.

Calvin tags Brady as his potential successor. Preacher confides in Connie about Paige's situation. Jack and his army buddies have a reunion, without Brady, but it brings back bad memories. Jack brings Charmaine a canine companion. Jamie is impressed with Preacher’s culinary skills and refined palate. Doc and Hope go to a dance class with Muriel. Ricky tries to impress Lizzie but compromises his morals. Mel continues to hear more unpleasantness from Stacey and visits Charmaine to give her some blood test results. Mel looks for a tribute for Mark. Muriel continues to vie for Doc’s affections, but he lets her know that Hope is who he wants. Charmaine's health is better, so she can leave Hope’s house and go home. Jack takes his buddies kayaking, but he takes them to a dangerous section of rapids; they are concerned that he will injure himself or them, since he drank all night the night before. Hope tries to apologize to Muriel, but Muriel is not resigned to losing Doc. Mike can't stay longer without evidence of Calvin's illegal activity. When Jack’s buddies leave, he has a hard time holding himself together. While out jogging, Mel has a bittersweet memory of a time she went sailing with Mark; the memory inspires her for what to do about Mark’s tribute. Charmaine shows Jack a large haul of baby items she received from her aunt and uncle in Portland. Jack goes back to the River, determined to ride the dangerous rapids; Mel persuades him not to do it. Jack confesses to Mel his insecurities about being a good father. Ricky and Lizzie get into a car crash. The sheriff finds a body in the forest.

On the anniversary of Mark's death, Mel tries to get through the day as normally as possible. Doc and Hope plan to go on a public date, which makes Hope freak out. Jack and Charmaine make a birth plan, but they have different opinions on how it should go. Hope talks to Preacher about her date that evening with Doc. Mel shares with Charmaine about the loss of her own baby and encourages Charmaine to take the safest birth option. Doc takes Hope to a restaurant in Arcata instead of the bar, where they run into Muriel. Lizzie and Ricky are goofing around in the bakery truck when things take a romantic turn. Muriel horns in on Doc and Hope’s date, and Hope acts to take back control of the evening. Mel finds an unexpected letter in her mail. Brady comes to the bar to talk to Jack; Jack reveals that the body found in the forest is identified as Leo, the man who held up Mel for OxyContin. Jack warns Brady that this is how people who work for Calvin end up. Preacher and Connie meet up, worried about the body. Mel tearfully shows Jack the letter she received—it was an item for Mark that was forwarded to her from her old address.

A drunk Jack injures himself while doing demolition at his place to build a nursery for the babies; while Mel patches him up, she apologizes to him for crying about the letter. Doc and Hope reflect on dinners that happened during their past married life; he talks Hope into making lasagna for him that night for dinner. Connie reveals to Preacher that she has concocted an alibi for him and Paige in case Wes’s body is found. Hope and Jack do a walkthrough on a house Jack is considering buying. A number of people in town come in to the clinic, sick with what looks like food poisoning, and Doc and Mel make a plan for tracking down the possible source. Lizzie invites Ricky over to the house, knowing that Connie won’t be there. The sewing ladies are at the bar gossiping about Hope and Doc when Hope walks in and joins the conversation. Mel and Doc butt heads as they try to solve the epidemic in the town. Jack talks to Spencer, one of Calvin's men, who is ready to testify against him in exchange for immunity. Hope is surprised to see Charmaine working at the salon; she tells Hope she may be moving to Portland to live with her aunt and uncle. Mike tells Jack he plans to use RICO to take down Calvin. Jamie suggests the restaurant may have been sabotaged. Jack’s new server, George, comes in to the clinic with odd symptoms. Calvin finds out about Spencer ratting him out and gives Brady a choice: either kill Spencer or not be part of the growers. Mel and Jack learn that George purposely sabotaged the food, under Calvin's orders, as retaliation for getting Spencer to work with the police.

Mel is awakened by an early phone call from Jack; she treats a lost and injured hiker Jack found on the road. Hope struggles to decide if Jack should know that Charmaine is moving to Portland. Doc leaves for a medical conference in Seattle. Preacher won't let Connie compromise herself over his alibi because Lizzie needs her. Jack's deal for buying the house is falling apart as he tries to find Spencer and confront Calvin about sabotaging the restaurant. Hope finds out from the ladies at the bar that Muriel is also in Seattle. Preacher panics when Wes's vehicle is found by the sheriff. Charmaine and Mel work together to find Jack. Jack is captured by Brady and Jimmy. Charmaine confesses to Mel that she may move with her Aunt in Portland. The sheriff goes to the bar to talk to Preacher; he finds out that Wes is a wanted man and suspected to be on the run after his partner flipped on him. Calvin lets Jack go, but warns him not to come back to the pot camp again. Connie comes home early and is upset to find Ricky in his underwear in her kitchen. Doc comes back from Seattle to show Hope how much he loves her, but she has an unpleasant surprise for him. Jack blows off steam at the batting cage after finding out what Brady did to Spencer. Mel confesses her love to Jack.

Hope realizes that she was wrong about the message on Doc's answering machine. Connie confronts Ricky and Lydie to try and get Ricky out of Lizzie's life; however, Lydie sticks up for her grandson. Preacher calls Jamie to let her know he'll take the offer in San Francisco after Jack rejects the idea of making him a partner in the restaurant. Doc invites Mel to his recommitment ceremony. Charmaine finds out Jack wants to buy a house and is very happy, thinking it means Jack wants to be a couple with her. Ricky thanks Lydie for sticking up for him and she dispenses grandmotherly advice. Mel confronts Brady about Spencer at the lumber yard; he tells her to meet him at another location to avoid being seen. Charmaine learns she was mistaken about Jack’s intentions with the house when he reaffirms he is not in love with her. Feeling rejected and pride hurt, she tells him that her future husband—whoever that is—will be the twins’ “father” and she’ll be the one to decide where and if Jack fits in. Lizzie apologizes to Hope. Brady shows Spencer's grave to Mel. Vince, Wes's twin brother, comes looking for him and for Michelle/Paige. He knows that Preacher is Paige's friend and tells him to give her a message: he's coming for her. Mel shows Jack a video of Spencer alive and well, getting on a bus with Maxine and their baby. Jack is relieved that Spencer is alive. Jamie says goodbye to Preacher and says she'll see him in San Francisco. Mike lets Jack know that he is in touch with Spencer and they'll be taking down Emerald Lumber, along with Brady who works there. Preacher gets difficult news about Paige/Michelle from her friend, who has brought Christopher along with her to Virgin River. Christopher begs to stay with Preacher. Doc has some serious medical news for Hope but is interrupted when they are surprised by their friends. Mel finds Jack lying on the floor of the bar with a gunshot wound.

A fully recovered Jack throws a party to celebrate Ricky's graduation. Hope is away visiting her aunt in South Carolina, but she can’t get back right away due to flights being cancelled because of a hurricane. Muriel tells the ladies she will be taking care of Doc till Hope can get back, and the ladies are snarky about it. Jack's sister Brie, a high-powered attorney, is there visiting. Ricky thanks Jack for the party and for forgiving him, and Jack tells Ricky he is family. Mel chats with Lilly and holds Chloe, remembering her own prior efforts to get pregnant. Charmaine introduces her new boyfriend, Todd, who she is already engaged to after less than a month together. Todd recently purchased an income property in Virgin River. Back at the cabin, Mel finds that Jack sent her flowers for her birthday. Jack pulls up at the cabin to visit, and Mel learns that he has planned things for her birthday. Preacher takes Christopher to summer day camp but he is worried to leave his side. Ricky and Lizzie are spending the day at the lake; their relationship is currently a secret, and Ricky is paranoid about Connie. Doc talks to an executive headhunter about finding his replacement. Jack is revealed to have partial memory loss as a result of the trauma of the shooting. Brady flirts with Brie at the bar, unaware that she is Jack’s sister. Doc tries to get some news from Hope. Jack’s house goes up in flames; Jack and Mel are able to escape without injury.

Jack's house is completely destroyed by the fire, so he spends some time at Mel's cabin. She asks him to stay with her, but he is reluctant to do that. Doc is getting more worried about Hope. The headhunter calls Doc to advise him she set up some interviews for his replacement. Ricky and Lizzie are hanging out at Lydie’s house, since their continuing relationship is still a secret, but Lizzie is unhappy with the lack of privacy. Brie is staying in Virgin River longer than expected. Lilly acts and looks unusually exhausted; Tara, Lilly’s daughter, says she is taking on too much. Brady is working a seemingly legit timber milling position with Emerald Lumber, but the company seems to be barely afloat. Muriel continues to insinuate herself into Doc’s life in Hope’s absence. Ricky surprises Lizzie with a private getaway, but he is still paranoid about getting caught. Brie runs into Brady in Clear River, and they have a drink together. Charmaine comes to the bar, apologizes to Jack for her previous behavior toward him, and gushes about her new and fast moving relationship with Todd. Mel goes over to check on Doc who is very worried about Hope. Jack asks Mel if the offer to stay with her still stands, to which she happily agrees. Lilly comes to Mel's cabin and tells Mel that she (Lilly) has cancer.

Preacher shares with Connie that Paige sent him a letter of medical consent for Christopher’s care. Parker, Lizzie's ex-boyfriend, comes to town looking for her. With no news from Hope, Doc books a flight to Atlanta so he can drive to Port Royal to find her. Parker and Lizzie meet at Jack's bar, where Parker meets Ricky. Parker tells Lizzie he is opening a club in L.A and asks Lizzie to come back with him to help; she’s not enthusiastic but says she'll think about it. Christopher gets upset with Preacher when Preacher doesn't let him go to a sleepover at a friend's. Brie tears up while telling Jack she quit her job. Jack gets upset when he learns from Todd that he convinced Charmaine to give birth in a hospital. Ricky visits a Marine Corps recruitment center. Lilly comes to Doc's house at night because Hope is on the phone. Mike calls to let Jack know that Jimmy is in custody.

Jack finds Mel sleeping in the back seat of her car, which makes him feel he’s imposing on her. Hope tells Doc she’s staying in South Carolina a while longer to help her aunt. Preacher tells Jack that Jamie offered him a job in San Francisco, but then the Christopher situation came up. Brady learns that Emerald Lumber isn’t really viable as a legitimate business. Jack wonders why Brie is still there. Tara discusses her concerns about Lilly with Doc. Christopher has a health scare. Mel questions Doc about why she’s not involved with the interviews after listening to a voicemail. Jack learns that Jimmy is in custody and approaches him at the station where he learns that Calvin knows he was responsible for the raid. Connie is still behaving controllingly toward Lizzie, and Lizzie takes an abrupt step to stop it. Jack has some romantic surprises for Mel. Brie’s past comes back to haunt her. Mel asks Jack an emotionally loaded question.

Charmaine tells Jack that Todd wants a meal with him. Lyddie isn't happy that Lizzie moved in with her and Ricky. This offer upsets Jack and causes him to question Todd’s motives. After interviewing a very promising new doctor, Doc tells Mel the real reason he's been interviewing doctors, stunning her. Lilly reveals her cancer and diagnosis to Doc and binds him to a problematic promise not to tell a still-absent Hope before Lilly does. Lilly admits to Tara about her diagnosis. Christopher grows mad with Preacher when he has to bail on plans with them to work an important party. Jack begins to remember pieces of the night he was shot. Brie reveals to Mel that Jack had been married before.

Brie survives passing out and Jack and Mel learn of her Xanax usage. Due to the person running the Lumberjack Games being sick, others in town pick up the slack. Lilly learns that Tara told others in town of Lilly's diagnosis. Christopher shows interest in chainsaws much to Preacher's fear. Charmaine is forced to give up the dog to keep Todd. Jack learns that Brady doesn't have an alibi and is the primary suspect in his shooting from Mike. Brie opens up to Mel about her brief and painful past. Lizzie is upset with Ricky for not wanting to live together. Jack and Mel compete in the Jack and Jill contest and they spent the time disagreeing about their relationship and future. Preacher grows unnerved when Christopher briefly goes missing. Doc enjoys a win before the worsening of his visual condition must end a particularly enjoyable part of his life. Lizzie is still upset with Ricky.

Tara has collapsed from a stress-induced seizure; Lilly is worried about Tara keeping the farm going after Lilly is gone. Preacher makes Connie feel that her help with Christopher isn’t needed. Jack gets bad news about the land from his fire-damaged house. Mike calls Brady in again for questioning about Jack’s shooting; Brie is upset with Brady for not returning her calls and texts. Lizzie and Ricky continue to define the parameters of their relationship. Doc tells Mel he’s putting the search for a new doctor on hold, telling Mel that the clinic is his life. Lizzie accepts Connie’s offer to move back in with her. Muriel gives Doc sensible advice about his professional relationship with Mel; he tells Mel he’s suffering from a serious eye condition and asks her to maintain his confidentiality. Preacher makes amends with Connie. Jack sees Brie with Brady and suddenly remembers that Brady was there when he was shot; he angrily orders Brady off his property. Jack meets with an attorney, who gives him some rather bleak news about his custody options. Jack believes he can't give Mel what she wants while he fights for the twins and doesn’t want to stand in the way of her becoming a mother. He breaks up with Mel and immediately regrets it.

Hope calls Doc, but is surprised when Muriel answers his phone. Hope is still in the dark about Lilly's health.Lilly asks her friends to take care of her children after her pending death. Ricky continues to hide his possible enlistment from Lizzie. Jack decides to fight to keep Mel in his life. Charmaine learns that Todd wants them to move to Eureka instead of staying in Clearwater in hopes of derailing Jack. Doc drops in at the farm to check on Lilly, Tara, and Chloe and accepts an invite to stay for dinner. Lilly goes to take a catnap before dinner; when Tara goes to call Lilly for dinner, Tara finds that Lilly has passed away in her sleep.

The town prepares to say goodbye to Lilly. Brie is surprised when she suffers a miscarriage. Lilly's funeral is dominated by recollections of her open heart and generosity and the love she shared with her late husband. Tara courageously tries to speak of her mother during the service, but is overcome with emotion; Mel helps her finish. Brady visits Brie after learning from Ricky that she had been sick, bringing her flowers while the rest of the town is at the funeral. He wasn't told that she suffered a miscarriage. Brie tries to rebuff him, but he confesses that he’s in love with her. At the reception after Lilly’s funeral, Jack and Mel talk seriously about their relationship. Hope didn’t arrive home in time for Lilly’s funeral, texting Doc that she needs to be alone. Lizzie invites Ricky to a friend’s wedding in Tulum in a few weeks, but he reveals that he doesn’t think he will be available; Lizzie is crushed to learn he plans to enlist in the Marines and didn’t tell her. Charmaine admits to Jack that Todd decided without her consent that they should move to Eureka, and Jack encourages her to be honest with Todd about her feelings. Mel consoles Tara after the funeral. With both Mel and Jack feeling emotional after Lilly’s funeral, they decide to reconcile. Doc learns that Hope has been seriously injured in an automobile accident.

Mel learns that her IVF procedure while she was in L.A. was successful, and she is pregnant. She debates with herself about how and when to tell Jack she’s pregnant. Doc faithfully keeps vigil at the hospital for Hope. Jack asks Preacher for an update about the partnership offer; Preacher decides he wants in. Mel and Brie meet for lunch, and Brie reveals she will be leaving town soon to start over again. She shares haltingly with Mel that she was raped by her ex-boyfriend and the pregnancy she miscarried was a result of the rape. Preacher meets up with a friend of Paige's, with alarming consequences for him and for Christopher. Charmaine stops by the bar to tell Jack that she and Todd recently and suddenly got married in Eureka. She also learns that Jack hired an attorney so she confirms that Todd doesn’t want Jack involved with the twins at all. Calvin is free and makes Brady an offer to underwrite Emerald Lumber financially in exchange for continuing to run drugs behind its facade before threatening him with charges for Jack's shooting. Lizzie tells Ricky she loved him, but now they should both go on and live their lives. Tara shares with Mel and Jack that someone set up an anonymous trust for her and Chloe. Brady tries to persuade Brie to stay in Virgin River, but they are interrupted by the sheriff, who has a search warrant for the premises. Parker and Lizzie drink together as he tries to persuade her to take him back. A young stranger checks in at Fitch’s, looking for his grandfather, who he claims is Doc Mullins. Doc is exhausted from being at the hospital, and Muriel visits him there. The cops find a gun in Brady’s Jeep, and he is arrested on suspicion of Jack’s attempted murder. As Mel and Jack watch the sun rise, he reminisces about meeting and falling in love with her. Encouraged by Jack’s openness and vulnerability, Mel finally tells Jack she’s pregnant—but also that she doesn’t know if he’s the father.

On September 27, 2018, it was announced that Netflix had given the production a series order for a first season consisting of ten episodes. The series was based on the Virgin River book series by Robyn Carr with executive producers: Sue Tenney, Roma Roth, and Chris Perry. Tenney was also set to serve as the series' showrunner with Reel World Management acting as the Production company involved in the series.[6] On December 20, 2019, Netflix renewed the series for a 10-episode second season.[2] On December 18, 2020, Netflix renewed the series for a 10-episode third season.[4]

Casting[]

On December 19, 2018, it was reported that Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Tim Matheson, and Annette O'Toole had been cast in series regular roles. Additionally, it was further reported that Jenny Cooper, David Cubitt, Lexa Doig, Daniel Gillies, Lauren Hammersley, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Colin Lawrence, Trevor Lerner, and Ian Tracey had joined the cast in an undisclosed capacity.[9] On May 29, 2020, Sarah Dugdale joined the second season as a series regular while Grayson Gurnsey has been promoted as a series regular for the second season.[8] On June 11, 2020, Benjamin Hollingsworth was promoted to a series regular for the second season.[7] Upon the third season renewal announcement, Zibby Allen was cast a new series regular and Stacey Farber was cast in a recurring role.[4]

Filming[]

Principal photography for the series' first season commenced on December 3, 2018, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and ended on March 26, 2019.[10] The series was also filmed on location in Snug Cove, New Westminster, Squamish, Agassiz, and Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.[11] Filming for the second season began on September 9, 2019 and ended on December 17, 2019.[12]

The community of Virgin River is actually Snug Cove, Bowen Island "with establishing shots including the local library, main streets and Artisan Lane", according to one report. The Watershed Grill, in Brackendale, British Columbia[13] stands in for Jack's Grill; some of the scenes involving Melinda and Jack were filmed in Squamish, near the river. The waterfalls in the show is in the Shannon Falls Provincial Park. Some scenes were filmed in Burnaby at Fraser Foreshore Park and at Port Coquitlam, both near Vancouver.[14] The cabin in the series is the caretaker’s house in Murdo Frazer Park, in North Vancouver; this site has been used by other productions as well.[15] Doc Mullins' practice is a Victorian home in New Westminister.[16]

The first season premiered on December 6, 2019.[1] The second season premiered on November 27, 2020.[3] The third season was released on July 9, 2021.[5]

Reception[]

On the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the second season holds a critic approval rating of 100%, based on 5 critic ratings.[17]
