Yeppoon State High School

Yeppoon State High School is a secondary school located in Yeppoon, Queensland, Australia. As of 2017, it has upwards of 1070 students drawn from an area ranging from Byfield to the north, Zilzie to the south, and Mount Chalmers and Cawarral to the west. It is the only state high school on the Capricorn Coast, located a few kilometres from the centre of Yeppoon.

History[]

Yeppoon High opened in 1960. Yeppoon State High School is the only government-run secondary school on the Capricorn Coast.[1]

The school had a new arts centre built in 2008. In August of that year, the Graham Page Oval was opened, named in honour of a former member of the Parents and Children Committee, who raised around A$1 million for school programs and redevelopments as well as mentoring and tutoring students.[citation needed]

Description and facilities[]

A new Central Queensland Institute of TAFE campus is located adjacent to the school directly behind the school farm. The farm has many animals including cows, horses and chickens, as well as fruit trees and areas for students to grow vegetables for their agricultural course assessments.[citation needed]

The arts centre includes an art gallery for displaying students' work, a classroom, media editing room and staff room. The library includes a computer lab and four classrooms, and there are also further computer labs in which students are taught business, accounting, information technology and other classes.[citation needed]

Yeppoon High School has two ovals, an outdoor basketball/tennis court, and a gymnasium/ function hall. A small gym facility includes exercise bikes, weight benches and other equipment.[citation needed]

As of 2021 the principal of the school is Marcus Shanahan
